Service Discovery Server

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to join our team in developing and maintaining the Service Discovery Server, a critical component of our microservices architecture. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing a robust discovery layer that enables seamless service-to-service communication without relying on hard-coded network configurations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java-based development, particularly with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud, and experience with modern deployment practices using Maven and Docker.

Key Responsibilities

• Microservices Architecture Development: Design and implement a scalable Service Discovery Server that allows dynamic registration, discovery, and communication between microservices in a distributed environment.
• Technical Implementation: Utilize Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Maven, and Docker to build a maintainable and production-ready discovery layer. Contribute to the repository ken4ward/discoveryserver by ensuring clean code, modular architecture, and adherence to best practices.
• Collaboration & Code Review: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including backend developers, DevOps engineers, and architects, to integrate the Service Discovery Server into the broader ecosystem. Participate in code reviews to uphold high standards of quality and consistency.
• Automation & CI/CD: Enhance and maintain build automation pipelines, ensuring reliable and repeatable deployment processes. Leverage Maven for dependency management and Docker for containerization to streamline development, testing, and production environments.
• Problem-Solving & Optimization: Identify and resolve challenges related to service discovery, load balancing, and fault tolerance. Optimize performance, scalability, and resilience to meet evolving business requirements.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain comprehensive documentation for the Service Discovery Server, including architecture diagrams, API specifications, and deployment guides. Share insights and best practices with the team to foster continuous improvement.

Technical Requirements

• Programming Languages & Frameworks: Proficiency in Java with hands-on experience in Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
• Build & Dependency Management: Strong understanding of Maven for project management and dependency resolution.
• Containerization & Deployment: Experience with Docker for containerizing applications and managing deployment workflows.
• Microservices Principles: Deep knowledge of microservices architecture, including service registration, discovery, and inter-service communication patterns.
• Version Control: Familiarity with Git and experience working in private repositories, such as ken4ward/discoveryserver.
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Ability to write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure the reliability and stability of the Service Discovery Server.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud-native technologies and platforms such as Kubernetes or Cloud Foundry.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
• Understanding of API gateways and service mesh technologies (e.g., Zuul, Istio).
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio demonstrating similar implementations.
