Join a Premier Tertiary Healthcare Provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a Pediatric Anesthesia Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pediatric Anesthesia Consultant to join our esteemed team at a leading tertiary healthcare provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will deliver exceptional anesthetic care to infants, children, and adolescents, supporting a diverse range of high-acuity surgical specialties while ensuring the highest standards of safety and clinical excellence. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping peri-operative management strategies, contributing to multidisciplinary care, and advancing departmental initiatives in line with international best practices.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive pediatric anesthesia services across a broad spectrum of surgical and procedural disciplines. Your duties will include:

  • Surgical Anesthesia: Delivering independent anesthesia care for general and neonatal surgery, as well as specialized procedures in ENT, orthopedics, ophthalmology, urology, oncology, radiology, and interventional radiology.
  • High-Risk Patient Management: Ensuring safe anesthesia administration for critically ill pediatric patients classified as ASA III–IV, including complex airway cases, trauma, and emergency resuscitations.
  • Critical Care Support: Providing anesthesia services to NICU and PICU units, including neonatal emergencies, pre-operative optimization, and post-operative pain management.
  • Advanced Pain Management: Performing and supervising regional and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to enhance multimodal pain control strategies for pediatric patients.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions, peri-operative care planning, and the development of evidence-based clinical pathways to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Quality Assurance & Improvement: Contributing to departmental quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality reviews, and clinical audits to uphold the highest standards of patient safety and care.
  • Education & Training: Mentoring junior anesthesia staff, conducting simulation-based training sessions, and fostering competency development programs to enhance the skills of the anesthesia team.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensuring full adherence to regulatory standards set by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), Joint Commission International (JCI), and the Ministry of Health (MOH) in all aspects of safety, documentation, and clinical governance.

Requirements

To qualify for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Professional Qualifications: Western Board Certification in Anesthesia, such as FRCA, American Board, FRCPC, CIC, FANZCA, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Specialized Training: Recognized Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesia or a minimum of 2–3 years of tertiary-level experience in pediatric anesthesia at a high-volume center.
  • Regulatory Eligibility: Eligibility for SCFHS Consultant Classification, with the ability to obtain full licensure in Saudi Arabia.
  • Clinical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in neonatal and pediatric airway management, regional anesthesia techniques, and the administration of anesthesia for high-acuity pediatric cases.
  • Experience: Prior experience in tertiary children’s hospitals or major surgical centers is highly desirable, with a proven track record in managing complex pediatric anesthesia cases.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication abilities and the capacity to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary pediatric care teams.

Desirable Experience

While not mandatory, candidates with the following experience will be given preference:

  • Exposure to pediatric cardiac anesthesia or participation in complex airway management programs.
  • Experience with simulation-based training, pediatric pain pathways, and sedation services.
  • Involvement in clinical research, guideline development, or quality improvement projects.
