Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Financial Controller to join our Finance team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This pivotal role will serve as the operational backbone of our Finance function, ensuring the highest standards of financial reporting accuracy, IFRS compliance, and robust internal controls. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Controller will lead the day-to-day financial operations, oversee critical processes such as month-end close, external audits, and financial reporting, while enabling the CFO to focus on strategic initiatives, investor relations, and board-level engagements. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical accounting expertise, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a proven track record in managing complex, multi-entity environments with a hands-on approach.
Key Responsibilities
The Financial Controller will be responsible for the following core functions:
- Finance Operations & Month-End Close:
- Lead and streamline month-end and year-end close processes across all business units and entities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to agreed timelines.
- Supervise key Finance function heads, including Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Budgeting, Accounting, and Financial Controls.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and trial balances to maintain financial integrity.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive Finance calendar to track close, reporting, audit, tax, and regulatory deadlines.
- Oversee intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and consolidation eliminations to ensure seamless financial consolidation.
- Financial Reporting & IFRS Compliance:
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow analyses, and variance reports.
- Ensure all financial reporting is fully compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and audit-ready at all times.
- Spearhead the IFRS conversion program in collaboration with internal teams and external advisors to align with global accounting standards.
- Establish and maintain consistent accounting policies across all business units to ensure uniformity and compliance.
- Oversee project revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS 15, including percentage-of-completion calculations, cost-to-complete estimates, variation orders, and claims.
- Review financial statements before submission to the CFO, Board of Directors, Audit Committee, or external stakeholders to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- External Audit Management:
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, facilitating seamless communication and coordination throughout the audit process.
- Lead audit preparation efforts, including the compilation of schedules, reconciliations, supporting documentation, and responses to audit queries.
- Manage the audit timetable to ensure timely completion and sign-off, while proactively addressing any delays or bottlenecks.
- Track and resolve audit findings and management letter points to enhance financial governance and compliance.
- Provide regular updates to the CFO on audit progress, risks, and significant issues to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Financial Controls & Process Improvement:
- Ensure the effective implementation of financial controls, segregation of duties, and robust approval frameworks to mitigate risks.
- Identify control weaknesses and implement practical improvements to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve Finance policies and procedures to align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Support the strengthening of the internal controls framework to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- CFO Support & Special Projects:
- Coordinate Finance inputs for Board presentations, Audit Committee materials, due diligence exercises, and other external reporting requirements.
- Lead Finance workstreams assigned by the CFO, ensuring deadlines are consistently met and deliverables are of the highest quality.
- Maintain visibility over key Finance projects, risks, dependencies, and deliverables to support strategic decision-making.
Key Success Measures
To excel in this role, the Financial Controller will be expected to achieve the following performance benchmarks:
- Complete month-end close processes by the 5th working day of each month.
- Submit reviewed management accounts to the CFO by the 8th working day of each month.
- Deliver an unqualified external audit opinion on schedule.
- Achieve 100% resolution of prior-year audit findings.
- Successfully complete the IFRS conversion program by Q4 2026.
- Ensure zero unresolved material Finance control breaches.
- Deliver 100% of CFO-assigned Finance project milestones on time.
Education & Professional Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification.
- Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting is highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Finance or Accounting roles is required, with a strong preference for candidates who have held leadership positions in complex, multi-entity, or project-based environments. Prior experience in IFRS compliance, external audit coordination, and financial controls implementation will be considered a significant advantage.
