Consultant OB/GYN

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist to join our esteemed medical team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional clinical care, ensuring the highest standards of medical practice in obstetrics and gynecology. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance departmental and hospital-wide performance. This position requires a commitment to patient-centered care, adherence to medical ethics, and active participation in academic and community health education.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Leadership and Patient Care:
  • Provide comprehensive clinical care, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in obstetrics and gynecology, adhering to the highest standards of medical practice.
  • Manage assigned clinics in accordance with the approved rota, ensuring timely and efficient patient consultations.
  • Admit patients under your care as indicated, within the scope of your approved privileges, and ensure their well-being throughout their hospital stay.
  • Conduct thorough initial assessments, interpret clinical findings and test results, and formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Prescribe and administer medications, therapies, and other appropriate treatments to manage and prevent complications of diseases.
  • Explain medical procedures, diagnostic results, and prescribed treatments to patients and authorized attendants in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Monitor patient progress through regular evaluations and adjust treatment plans as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Refer patients to other specialists or consultants when required, and provide consulting services to colleagues as requested.
  • Perform daily rounds on patients under your care, including those referred to you, ensuring comprehensive and timely medical attention.
• Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients, in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Authenticate medical records and progress notes using your unique login credentials in the Patient Health Records system.
  • Review and validate entries and notes made by junior medical staff for patients under your care, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Approve completed discharge summaries, follow-up plans, and medical reports for patients under your supervision.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all approved policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical pathways governing clinical services.
• Departmental and Hospital Leadership:
  • Assume the role of Head of Department as and when required by hospital management, providing strategic direction and operational oversight.
  • Direct, supervise, and coordinate the activities of specialists, residents, nurses, therapists, assistants, and other medical staff involved in patient care.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures as part of the continuous quality improvement program within the department.
  • Serve on departmental and hospital committees to support organizational goals and initiatives.
  • Ensure the implementation of Islamic values and medical ethics in all clinical practices and decision-making processes.
• Emergency and On-Call Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill on-call duties in accordance with hospital policies, ensuring availability and responsiveness during critical periods.
  • Participate in Code Blue and other emergency response codes to provide immediate medical intervention when required.
  • Provide medical reports and information to the Head of Department, Hospital Administrator, or Medical Director as requested.
  • Identify and report medico-legal cases to management in a timely manner, in accordance with hospital policy.
• Education and Community Engagement:
  • Actively participate in clinical and academic activities within the hospital, including the education of patients and their families on healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Contribute to community health awareness and education initiatives, addressing issues related to obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Provide orientation, bedside training, and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, fostering the next generation of medical professionals.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients for all diagnostic procedures, operations, tests, or treatments, in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Engage in person-centered care initiatives to enhance patient experience and outcomes.
• Professional Conduct and Compliance:
  • Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance in all assigned duties and schedules.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe and compliant clinical environment.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a valid medical license and board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. A minimum of five years of post-residency clinical experience in a reputable healthcare institution is required. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement. Proficiency in medical documentation and electronic health records systems is preferred.
