Your Mission: Keeping the Cloud Running
As a Data Center Technician within AWS Infrastructure Services, you will be responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS’s global infrastructure. This encompasses all data centers and the critical hardware, networking, power, cooling, storage, and server systems that ensure uninterrupted access to AWS services. You will tackle complex challenges with thousands of variables, from supply chain logistics to technical diagnostics, while collaborating with a diverse team of engineers, security experts, operations managers, and supply chain specialists. Together, you will uphold the highest standards of safety, security, and operational excellence, delivering infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Hardware and Network Diagnostics: Perform in-depth troubleshooting of server hardware, network components, and operating systems to identify and resolve issues that impact service availability.
- Physical Repairs and Maintenance: Conduct server rack installations, hardware break-fix operations, and routine repairs to ensure the continuous operation of AWS services.
- Incident Response: Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors, during operational incidents to drive swift resolution.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to address critical issues outside of regular working hours, ensuring 24/7 operational coverage.
- Collaboration and Documentation: Work closely with cross-functional teams to contribute to process improvements, documentation, and training initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and knowledge sharing.
- Training and Onboarding: Assist in interviewing, training, and onboarding new team members to foster a culture of excellence and continuous growth.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This role is designed for professionals who thrive in dynamic, industrial environments and are prepared to meet the physical demands of maintaining critical infrastructure. Key physical requirements include:
- Lifting and moving materials up to 40 pounds individually.
- Working in cramped, elevated, or confined spaces with agility and precision.
- Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching to access equipment and perform repairs.
- Standing, walking, and remaining active for up to 8+ hours per day, with the ability to work extended shifts to support 24/7 operations.
- Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
- Traveling to data center locations as needed, including temporary assignments at alternative sites during training or facility development phases.
Essential Requirements
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following:
- Mobility and Flexibility: Willingness to travel or commute to data center sites, with the ability to cover distances over 50 miles as required by business needs.
- Adaptability: Capability to work in facilities at various operational stages, including those under development, and temporarily relocate for training or assignments until your designated site becomes fully operational.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of server hardware, networking, and operating systems, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to engage with stakeholders across AWS and drive collaborative problem-solving.
- Commitment to Safety and Security: Dedication to upholding AWS’s rigorous safety and security standards, particularly in AWS GovCloud regions where logical access is restricted to U.S. citizens starting February 24, 2026.
