Position Overview

In this critical role, you will safeguard and maintain the operational excellence of AWS data centers, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery for millions of businesses and end-users globally. As a Data Center Technician, you will engage in comprehensive hardware and network diagnostics, execute precise physical repairs, and participate in an on-call rotation to uphold the highest standards of reliability and performance.

Core Responsibilities

This position is pivotal to the seamless functioning of AWS’s global infrastructure, which powers the innovation relied upon by customers worldwide. You will be responsible for:

• Hardware and Network Maintenance: Installing server racks, performing hardware break-fix operations on critical components, and troubleshooting network issues to ensure optimal service availability.
• Incident Response: Addressing operational incidents that impact service continuity, conducting routine repairs on network infrastructure, server hardware, and operating systems, and contributing to the overall reliability of AWS services.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Serving as the primary point of contact for internal teams, including engineers, software developers, and operations managers, as well as external stakeholders such as vendors and contractors, to facilitate efficient issue resolution.
• On-Call and Maintenance Duties: Participating in scheduled maintenance activities, change management processes, and on-call rotations to support 24/7 operational requirements, including night and day shifts.
• Process Improvement: Contributing to documentation and process enhancement initiatives by analyzing operational challenges and proposing data-driven solutions to optimize efficiency and reliability.
• Team Development: Assisting in the recruitment, training, and onboarding of new team members to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role is designed for professionals who thrive in dynamic, industrial environments and are prepared to meet the physical demands of the position. Key requirements include:

• Physical Capabilities: The ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds, work in confined or elevated spaces, and perform repetitive motions such as bending, stretching, and reaching. Candidates must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods, up to 8+ hours per day, and safely ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and gangways without limitations.
• Operational Flexibility: Willingness to work shifts longer than 8 hours to accommodate 24/7 operations, including night shifts, and adapt to varying work schedules as required by business needs.
• Industrial Setting: Comfort with working in an industrial environment, including exposure to equipment noise, temperature variations, and other environmental factors typical of data center operations.

Travel and Relocation Requirements

This position may involve travel or commuting between data center locations, depending on business needs and the operational status of assigned facilities. Candidates must be prepared to:

• Travel Flexibility: Commute or travel (over 50 miles) to active data center sites as required, with travel frequency varying based on business demands.
• Training and Development: Temporarily relocate to established sites for training purposes until your designated facility becomes fully operational, if applicable.
• Relocation Support: Eligible candidates who relocate for this position may receive a lump sum stipend to facilitate the transition.

Please note that the PDX region operates as an AWS GovCloud location. Effective February 24, 2026, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. Access from outside the United States will not be permitted.
