This position is instrumental in integrating GIS technologies into heritage-sensitive urban planning and project execution. Collaborating closely with planning, engineering, and construction teams, the GIS Engineer will ensure the availability of accurate geospatial information for asset management, design validation, utilities coordination, and stakeholder reporting. The role requires a strong technical background in GIS, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex spatial data into actionable insights for project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Management: Develop, maintain, and update GIS databases to support ongoing and future project phases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Mapping and Visualization: Generate high-quality maps to visualize project information, asset locations, and infrastructure networks, facilitating clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Site Planning and Infrastructure Layout: Support site planning, infrastructure layout, and utility coordination by leveraging spatial data overlays and advanced geospatial analysis.
  • Geospatial Analysis: Perform geospatial analysis to inform design decisions, heritage impact assessments, and construction logistics, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with design and engineering teams to ensure geospatial data aligns with architectural and civil layouts, promoting seamless integration across disciplines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide GIS input for stakeholder presentations, permit documentation, and progress reporting, enhancing transparency and accountability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with authorities, including the Jeddah Historic District (JHD), to ensure spatial data compliance with heritage preservation zones and regulatory boundaries.
  • System Integration: Assist in integrating GIS layers into Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) and Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) for centralized information management.
  • Field Data Collection: Conduct field data collection using GPS and drone-based surveys when required, ensuring accurate and up-to-date spatial data.
  • Data Standards and Quality Assurance: Maintain metadata standards, ensure data accuracy, consistency, and version control, and support spatial analysis for risk identification, environmental constraints, and urban zoning.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and technical support on GIS tools to project staff and consultants, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Documentation and Handover: Prepare comprehensive documentation for GIS workflows, procedures, and data handover at project closeout, ensuring knowledge transfer and long-term project sustainability.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics Engineering, Survey Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory. A Master’s Degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related spatial discipline is preferred.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum 8 to 12 years of professional experience in a GIS engineering or geospatial technical role.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in land development, cadastral mapping, 3D digital twin, survey, or urban planning projects in Saudi Arabia is highly preferred.
  • Project Management Exposure: Prior exposure to Project Management Consultancy (PMC) roles or contractor deliverable review functions is advantageous.
  • Heritage and Urban Planning: Experience in historic urban areas with complex boundary and survey conditions is considered a strong advantage.
