Senior Materials Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Materials Engineer to oversee the quality, testing, and approval of construction materials for civil engineering projects. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that all materials adhere to project specifications, industry standards, and contractual obligations while providing expert guidance to construction and QA/QC teams. Key Responsibilities

The Senior Materials Engineer will be responsible for a comprehensive range of duties, including:

• Material Evaluation and Approval: Review, assess, and approve construction materials, mix designs, and material submittals to ensure they meet project requirements and applicable standards (ASTM, BS, IRC, MORTH, AASHTO, etc.).
• Laboratory and Field Testing Oversight: Supervise and conduct rigorous testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, bitumen, and related materials in both laboratory and field environments to validate their performance and compliance.
• Quality Assurance and Control: Develop, implement, and monitor robust QA/QC processes to maintain material quality throughout the project lifecycle, identifying non-conformities and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
• Technical Leadership and Support: Provide expert technical guidance to site teams on material-related challenges, performance expectations, and best practices to ensure optimal project execution.
• Equipment Management: Oversee the calibration, operation, and maintenance of laboratory and testing equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare, review, and maintain comprehensive material approval logs, test reports, and quality documentation to demonstrate compliance and support project audits.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate closely with clients, consultants, QA/QC teams, and construction personnel to address material-related concerns, facilitate seamless project delivery, and resolve issues proactively.
• Team Leadership and Mentorship: Supervise, mentor, and develop material engineers, inspectors, and laboratory personnel, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols during all material testing and handling activities, prioritizing the well-being of personnel and the sustainability of operations.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and attributes:

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline, with UPDA Grade A Registration as a mandatory requirement.
• A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in construction material engineering, with a proven track record in infrastructure, road/highway, or large-scale civil construction projects.
• In-depth knowledge of concrete technology, asphalt, soil mechanics, and pavement materials, along with hands-on experience in field and laboratory testing and inspections.
• Strong familiarity with QA/QC systems, construction material standards, and regulatory frameworks, enabling effective interpretation of specifications, drawings, codes, and test results.
• Exceptional analytical, reporting, and documentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams and site-based activities, coupled with strong coordination and communication abilities.
