About the Role

Key Responsibilities

The Junior Backend Engineer will be responsible for a variety of critical tasks, including:

• Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture. Ensure these services are scalable, efficient, and aligned with business requirements.
• Software Implementation: Translate functional and technical specifications into functional, tested, and production-ready code. Collaborate with product teams to refine requirements and deliver solutions that meet user needs.
• System Integration: Integrate backend services with databases, internal platforms, and external partner systems to enable seamless data flow and interoperability across the organization.
• Event Streaming and Messaging: Work with event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka and message queues (MQ) to support real-time data processing and communication between services.
• Code Quality and Testing: Write clean, maintainable, and testable code in adherence to engineering best practices. Perform unit testing, debugging, and defect resolution to ensure the reliability of the applications.
• Security and Compliance: Implement secure coding practices, including robust authentication and authorization mechanisms, as well as data protection measures to safeguard sensitive information and comply with industry standards.
• Deployment and Monitoring: Support the deployment and monitoring of applications on containerized platforms such as OpenShift and Kubernetes, utilizing established CI/CD pipelines to streamline the release process.
• Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and squad ceremonies to foster knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Contribute to the enhancement of development practices and the overall quality of our applications.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Assist in production troubleshooting under the guidance of senior engineers, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance of backend systems.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation to facilitate knowledge transfer and onboarding for future team members.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in backend development, with a proven track record of delivering software solutions in a professional setting.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, SQL, and Git. Familiarity with these technologies is essential for contributing effectively to our backend systems.
