Role Summary

As part of our mission to transform the lives of patients living with chronic non-communicable diseases, AstraZeneca is establishing a dedicated BioPharma Business Unit (BBU) in Saudi Arabia. This unit will focus on delivering innovative therapies and supportive healthcare solutions to millions of patients suffering from severe conditions such as Severe Asthma, Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSwNP), and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

To strengthen our leadership position and accelerate the launch of our expanding pipeline, we are seeking a Biologics & Immunology Medical Lead to join our Medical Affairs team in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This pivotal role will report directly to the KSA BBU Medical Director and will play a key part in the KSA BBU Medical Affairs Leadership team. The successful candidate will provide therapeutic area leadership for Biologics and Immunology, ensuring the adaptation and execution of AstraZeneca’s global and international medical affairs strategies for Severe Asthma, CSwNP, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Lupus. Additionally, this role will involve leading a team of medical affairs professionals, including Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Medical Advisors, and overseeing the implementation of strategic medical initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Provide expert guidance in building the therapeutic area (TA) medical organization, developing a clear TA medical vision and ambition that aligns with AstraZeneca KSA’s strategic objectives and Saudi Vision 2030. Collaborate closely with the Medical Director to ensure cohesive and impactful execution.
• Team Leadership & Development: Build and lead a high-performing KSA BBU medical team, fostering a culture of mentorship, coaching, and professional growth. Ensure seamless integration of the medical team’s efforts with cross-functional brand teams to maximize collective impact.
• External Engagement & Advocacy: Establish and nurture enduring partnerships with key medical institutions, clinics, research centers, and thought leaders across Saudi Arabia. Position AstraZeneca as a trusted leader in the Biologics and Immunology therapeutic area through advocacy and collaboration.
• Operational Excellence & Compliance: Oversee the implementation of robust TA medical operational and compliance processes, ensuring alignment with AstraZeneca’s global standards, local laws, and regional policies. Drive continuous improvement and integration of best practices to maintain the highest standards of medical and regulatory compliance.
• Patient-Centric Initiatives: Champion a patient-first approach by developing collaborations with Patient Association Groups (PAGs), raising disease awareness, and partnering with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and PAGs to implement locally adapted patient identification initiatives. Serve as a subject matter expert, providing medical insights and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or equivalent, with a strong background in Pulmonology, Allergy & Immunology, Rheumatology, or related specialties. A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in medical affairs, clinical practice, or a closely related field is required, with a proven track record in therapeutic area leadership. Experience in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia, is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, evolving healthcare environment.
