Power Service Transformer Engineer

Position Overview

The Power Service Transformer Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the operational reliability and efficiency of power transformers across substations and industrial facilities. This position encompasses a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of transformers spanning low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), high voltage (HV), and extra-high voltage (EHV) systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining compliance with industry standards, minimizing downtime, and safeguarding the integrity of critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

The Power Service Transformer Engineer will be entrusted with the following core duties:

• Installation & Commissioning:
  • Oversee the complete installation process of power transformers, including supervision of erection, oil filling, vacuum treatment, and drying procedures.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, coordinating Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as required.
  • Ensure adherence to technical drawings, method statements, and stringent safety protocols throughout all phases of installation and commissioning.
• Testing & Diagnostics:
  • Execute and interpret a wide array of diagnostic tests to assess transformer health, including Insulation Resistance (IR), Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR), Winding Resistance, Capacitance & Tan Delta (Power Factor), Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), and Partial Discharge (PD) testing.
  • Analyze test results with precision, identifying potential issues and providing actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance performance.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports outlining findings, corrective measures, and compliance status for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to prolong transformer lifespan and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults, including overheating, oil leakage, abnormal gas formation, bushing failures, and On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) issues.
  • Supervise repair, refurbishment, or retrofitting initiatives to restore transformers to optimal working condition, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Possess a minimum of 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in power transformer service and testing, with a proven track record in HV/EHV transformer systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in working with transformers rated at 132kV, 220kV, and 400kV is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data and translate findings into practical solutions.
• Proficiency in adhering to international standards and safety protocols in high-voltage environments.
