Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Oversight: Manage the full lifecycle of surgical equipment, including procurement, installation, calibration, and decommissioning, to maintain optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of technicians and support staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to foster a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Vendor and Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between Alcon, healthcare providers, and equipment vendors to facilitate timely repairs, upgrades, and service agreements.
  • Budget and Inventory Management: Develop and manage budgets for equipment-related expenditures, including maintenance contracts and replacement parts, while optimizing inventory levels to minimize downtime.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all equipment adheres to local and international regulatory standards, including ISO, FDA, and Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) requirements, through rigorous documentation and audits.
  • Training and Education: Organize and conduct training sessions for clinical staff on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of surgical equipment to enhance operational efficiency and patient safety.
  • Performance Monitoring: Implement and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess equipment reliability, uptime, and cost-effectiveness, reporting findings to senior management for strategic decision-making.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CBET, CHTM) is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in surgical or medical equipment management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity. Prior experience in the ophthalmic or healthcare sector is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of surgical equipment systems, including phacoemulsification machines, vitrectomy systems, and laser platforms. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and equipment tracking software is a plus.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, including SFDA, ISO 13485, and GDPR, with a proven ability to implement compliant processes.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and project management skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and adapt to evolving technological advancements.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is advantageous.
