Amey Consulting is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Technology Engineer to join our dynamic Lighting, Power and Technology team based in Newcastle. This is a permanent position offering a 40-hour workweek with flexible working arrangements, including hybrid, part-time, and adaptable patterns to suit your lifestyle. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting National Highways through the Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), contributing to the largest operational roadside technology renewals programme in the UK. This includes involvement in frameworks such as SPaTS2, OTCF, and ITCF, where you will help deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for roadside technology infrastructure across RIS2 and RIS3 periods.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Technology Design Engineer within Amey Consulting, your contributions will be integral to the success of our projects. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Collaborative Engineering Solutions: Working closely with your team to develop technically robust and innovative engineering solutions that meet quality, cost, and programme objectives.
• Design Development and Documentation: Preparing detailed designs, calculations, drawings, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
• Risk Management: Identifying potential design risks and hazards, and effectively communicating these to Principal Contractors through scheme safety risk management documentation.
• Team Leadership and Mentorship: Providing guidance and oversight to junior team members, ensuring their work aligns with project goals and safety protocols.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with client and supplier representatives at a peer level, attending progress meetings, and addressing technical queries to foster strong working relationships.
• Bid Contributions: Supporting the preparation of bids and proposals to secure new projects, demonstrating your ability to articulate technical expertise and value.
• Health and Safety Advocacy: Championing and implementing effective health and safety practices within the team to ensure a secure working environment.

What We Look For

We are seeking candidates with a proven track record in the roadside technology field, ideally with experience gained in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent capacity. The ideal candidate will possess:

• Technical Expertise: A solid understanding of roadside technology design processes, procedures, and operational maintenance experience.
• Engineering Proficiency: The ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions that comply with relevant technical standards and client specifications.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in project-related health, safety, and welfare tasks, including familiarity with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
• CAD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CAD design tools to create accurate and detailed technical drawings.
• Proactive Mindset: A can-do attitude with a strong desire to learn, grow, and progress within a collaborative team environment.
• Adaptability: The capability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation and focus.

Qualifications and Professional Development

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technology-related discipline, or demonstrate equivalent further learning.
