Key Responsibilities

You will take ownership of the entire API lifecycle, from design and deployment to monitoring and retirement, ensuring each API adheres to best practices for performance, security, and operational excellence. Your role encompasses:

• Architect and Implement API Gateways: Design, configure, and administer Apigee, Apache APISIX, and WSO2 platforms to create high-performance, secure, and scalable API gateways that support diverse use cases, including microservices, third-party integrations, and internal applications.
• Manage the API Lifecycle: Oversee the entire API lifecycle—from initial design and versioning to deployment, monitoring, and eventual retirement—ensuring alignment with business needs and technical best practices.
• Enhance Security and Compliance: Implement and manage robust security measures, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), mutual TLS (mTLS), SSL/TLS certificates, and authentication/authorization mechanisms to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Optimize Performance and Reliability: Troubleshoot API gateway issues, connectivity problems, and integration challenges to maintain optimal performance, availability, and scalability in both Linux and Kubernetes environments.
• Automate and Streamline Workflows: Integrate API platforms with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes to accelerate delivery while minimizing human error and operational overhead.
• Monitor and Analyze API Health: Utilize advanced API monitoring and observability tools to track performance metrics, traffic patterns, error rates, and security threats, enabling proactive issue resolution and continuous improvement.
• Foster Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with development, DevOps, security, and infrastructure teams to align API strategies with broader business goals, ensuring seamless integration and operational support.
• Establish Industry-Leading Best Practices: Define and enforce API governance, security policies, performance benchmarks, and operational standards to elevate the quality and reliability of our API infrastructure.

Required Skills and Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess:

• 7+ years of experience in API management, API platform engineering, or integration engineering, with a proven track record of delivering scalable and secure API solutions.
• Hands-on expertise with Apigee, Apache APISIX, and/or WSO2, including deep knowledge of their architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting methodologies.
• Proficient understanding of API gateway implementation, administration, and lifecycle management, with a focus on performance optimization, security hardening, and operational efficiency.
• Strong grasp of API security protocols, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, SSL/TLS, and certificate management, with experience ensuring end-to-end security for APIs.
• Advanced technical skills in Linux systems administration and Kubernetes, including containerization, orchestration, and cloud-native deployment strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices, enabling seamless integration of API platforms into automated deployment workflows.
• Expertise in API monitoring, logging, and performance analysis, leveraging tools to diagnose issues, optimize performance, and enhance user experiences.
• Deep knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, and modern authentication/authorization frameworks, with a commitment to adhering to security best practices.
• Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting abilities, coupled with strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following will further strengthen your candidacy:

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including deployment, scaling, and management of API gateways in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker, Helm, and advanced Kubernetes configurations.
• Knowledge of API observability platforms like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog, enabling comprehensive monitoring and alerting for API health and performance.
• Relevant certifications in API Management, Cloud Computing, Kubernetes (e.g., CKAD, CKS), or DevOps (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator), demonstrating your commitment to professional growth and excellence.
