Key Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of IT commissioning, from initial design review to final handover and stabilization. Your strategic oversight will ensure that every system—from infrastructure and clinical applications to cybersecurity controls—is meticulously tested, integrated, and validated for seamless clinical adoption. Key duties include:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the IT commissioning plan, defining scope, budget, timeline, and risk mitigation strategies while aligning with the broader hospital opening program. Act as the primary point of accountability for IT readiness, ensuring all dependencies—technical, contractual, and stakeholder-related—are meticulously managed.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the linchpin between clinical teams, facilities management, construction contractors, biomedical engineering, IT specialists, and external vendors. Facilitate clear communication, define acceptance criteria, and resolve conflicts to ensure a cohesive and efficient deployment process.
- Technical Validation: Lead rigorous assessments of IT infrastructure, including power and cooling systems, structured cabling, networking, endpoints, telephony, and cybersecurity protocols. Validate the readiness of IT rooms and ensure seamless integration of core hospital systems such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Pharmacy Management Systems, and medical device interfaces.
- Integration and Testing: Oversee the deployment and integration of all clinical and business systems, conducting comprehensive installation verification, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Validate end-to-end clinical workflows, system capacity, failover mechanisms, and disaster recovery procedures to guarantee resilience and reliability.
- Risk Management and Readiness: Monitor and escalate risks proactively, managing defects, readiness evidence, and cutover rehearsals. Present data-driven go-live recommendations to authorized stakeholders, ensuring all systems meet operational and clinical standards before full deployment.
- Handover and Stabilization: Lead the post-go-live phase, including the completion of asset records, as-built documentation, licensing, warranties, and operating procedures. Facilitate a smooth transition to ongoing IT support, ensuring long-term stability and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications
To excel in this role, you must bring a robust blend of technical expertise and leadership experience:
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in healthcare IT delivery, with a proven history of leading IT commissioning for at least one hospital opening or major expansion project.
- A Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related discipline, complemented by specialized knowledge in healthcare IT systems and clinical workflows.
- Deep expertise in hospital commissioning, spanning installation through clinical go-live, with a strong foundation in infrastructure management, clinical system integration, and IT governance.
- Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to coordinate contractors, manage stakeholder expectations, and mitigate risks in high-stakes environments.
- A results-driven mindset with a focus on delivering IT solutions that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
