Senior Power Systems Specialist – PSCAD / High Voltage & Extra High Voltage Studies

This position demands a blend of advanced technical knowledge, analytical rigor, and a collaborative mindset to support Wood’s clients in achieving their strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for:

  • Advanced Power System Modeling & Simulation: Lead and execute detailed **PSCAD simulations** for HV and EHV systems, including fault studies, transient stability analysis, harmonic studies, and dynamic performance evaluations. Ensure models are accurate, validated, and aligned with industry standards.
  • Technical Consulting & Problem-Solving: Provide expert guidance to clients on power system design, optimization, and operational improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical challenges in grid integration, renewable energy integration, and smart grid technologies.
  • Study & Report Development: Author comprehensive technical reports, including study findings, recommendations, and actionable insights for stakeholders. Present findings clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Expertise: Ensure all studies and analyses adhere to local (Saudi Arabia) and international regulations, including IEEE, IEC, and NERC standards. Stay updated on evolving industry regulations and emerging technologies.
  • Training & Knowledge Transfer: Mentor junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence. Share best practices and innovative approaches to enhance team capabilities.
  • On-Site & Off-Site Engagement: Travel to client sites in Saudi Arabia as required to conduct field studies, inspections, and technical reviews. Engage closely with project teams to ensure seamless execution of power system studies.

Qualifications & Skills:

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. Professional certifications such as **PE (Professional Engineer), P.E.E (Power Systems Engineer), or equivalent** are highly preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in **PSCAD software** with hands-on experience in modeling, simulating, and analyzing HV and EHV systems. Deep knowledge of power system protection, control, and automation is essential.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of **8+ years** in power systems engineering, with a strong focus on **HV/EHV studies, grid integration, or renewable energy integration**. Experience in the **Middle East or Saudi Arabian market** is a significant advantage.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and propose data-driven solutions. Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in mathematical modeling.
