Senior AIX L3 Support Engineer – Critical Enterprise Banking Infrastructure

Join our high-impact team as an **AIX L3 Support Engineer** in Riyadh, KSA, where you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and optimizing a mission-critical IBM Power/AIX environment for a leading enterprise banking institution. This position demands a seasoned professional with deep expertise in AIX, virtualization, high-availability systems, and storage solutions, ensuring seamless operations in a 24/7 support model. If you thrive in a dynamic, high-stakes environment and are passionate about driving infrastructure excellence, we invite you to contribute your skills to a team that prioritizes reliability, security, and innovation.

As an **AIX L3 Support Engineer**, you will be responsible for independently managing complex infrastructure initiatives, troubleshooting critical issues, and leading end-to-end system transformations. Your technical acumen will be instrumental in upholding the highest standards of uptime, security, and compliance in one of the most demanding enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a broad spectrum of technical and operational duties, including but not limited to:

  • AIX and Power Systems Administration: Provide end-to-end L3 support for AIX systems, including installation, patching, OS upgrades (AIX 6.1/7.1/7.2), and performance tuning. Manage logical partitions (LPARs), DLPAR operations, filesystem/LVM configurations, and capacity optimization to ensure peak system efficiency. Oversee high-availability environments, including PowerHA clusters and replication setups, to guarantee fault tolerance and business continuity.
  • VIOS, Virtualization, and HMC Management: Lead VIOS patching, upgrades, and virtual I/O management (SEA, NPIV, vSCSI, vFC) to support virtualized workloads. Execute HMC software updates, release upgrades, and service pack installations while maintaining configuration standardization. Collaborate with cross-platform teams to optimize virtualization strategies and enhance infrastructure agility.
  • Firmware and Hardware Lifecycle Management: Plan and execute firmware upgrades on IBM Power Systems (Power9/Power10 or equivalent) to ensure hardware compatibility and performance. Coordinate closely with data center and vendor teams to align hardware activities with strategic infrastructure goals.
  • Storage and SAN Integration: Lead complex SAN storage migrations across multi-vendor platforms (e.g., 3PAR, Unity, IBM) to modernize and optimize storage infrastructure. Perform LUN provisioning/decommissioning, zoning coordination, multipath validation, and host mappings while troubleshooting connectivity and performance bottlenecks.
  • Disaster Recovery and High Availability: Take ownership of yearly DR exercises, conducting end-to-end failover testing, environment validation, and recovery procedures. Support DR planning initiatives, including system replications, fallback procedures, and post-DR readiness assessments to ensure resilience.
  • Security, Audits, and Compliance: Proactively address OS-level vulnerabilities (CVEs), apply security hardening measures, and maintain compliance with industry standards. Assist in internal and external audits by preparing comprehensive documentation, system evidence, and remediation activities to mitigate risks.
  • Project Execution and Infrastructure Transformation: Participate in and lead high-impact infrastructure projects, such as OS upgrades (e.g., AIX 7.2), data center migrations, platform consolidation, and storage/virtualization modernization. Develop and execute change plans, impact assessments, test plans, and rollback strategies with a zero-defect methodology to minimize downtime and operational risks.
  • Linux Administration (L2 Level): Provide L2-level support for Linux environments (RHEL/SUSE/Oracle Linux), including user management, patching, service monitoring, log analysis, cron jobs, and basic network troubleshooting. Bridge the gap between AIX and Linux platforms in integrated environments to ensure seamless interoperability.
  • Operational Excellence: Implement proactive monitoring, system health checks, and risk identification to preemptively address potential issues. Maintain meticulous documentation, including SOPs, build documents, DR runbooks, and configuration records, to ensure knowledge continuity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to resolve incidents and deliver planned activities with precision and efficiency.

This role is ideal for a **highly skilled AIX engineer** with 7–12+ years of experience who is committed to excellence in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. Your ability to drive innovation, ensure reliability, and lead infrastructure transformations will be critical to the success of our enterprise banking operations.

Why This Role Matters

Your contributions will directly impact the stability, security, and performance of a critical banking infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations for thousands of users. This is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to be part of a team that sets industry standards for reliability and innovation in enterprise IT.
