Role Overview

As a Demolition Specialist at AECOM, you will play a critical role in executing demolition and site preparation projects with precision, safety, and accountability. This position requires a deep understanding of engineering techniques, construction standards, and regulatory compliance to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to the highest quality. You will work under general supervision but will be fully responsible for the quality of your work and adherence to safety protocols. Your expertise will contribute to the successful delivery of projects that shape the future of our built environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Demolition Specialist will be responsible for the following duties and obligations:

  • Project Execution: Perform routine demolition and site preparation tasks while ensuring full compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project requirements. Exercise professional judgment to select and implement effective solutions that meet rigorous construction criteria.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct independent walk-downs and inspections of installed materials and equipment to verify strict adherence to design requirements, blueprints, and technical specifications. Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions to maintain project integrity.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Perform detailed quantity surveys to accurately track project progress, resource allocation, and material usage. Maintain comprehensive records and generate reports to support project management and client communication.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and oversight to drafters, technicians, surveyors, and other team members as assigned. Ensure all personnel follow established project standards, safety protocols, and best practices in demolition and site preparation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Uphold the highest standards of safety by adhering to OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Identify potential hazards and implement proactive measures to mitigate risks in dynamic work environments.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain demolition equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, and specialized tools, with a focus on efficiency, safety, and equipment longevity. Ensure all machinery is inspected and serviced in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. An Associate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in demolition, site preparation, or heavy construction is essential. Experience with quantity surveying, project documentation, and technical supervision is a plus.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification or equivalent is mandatory. Certification as a Demolition Specialist or related credential is highly desirable.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, technical specifications, and schematics. Familiarity with construction management software, digital surveying tools, and environmental remediation practices is beneficial.
  • Physical Requirements: Capable of performing physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions and at heights. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality workmanship, and excellent communication skills are critical. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide clear technical guidance is essential.
