Senior Materials Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Materials Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the meticulous technical evaluation, selection, and management of materials to ensure full compliance with project specifications, international codes, and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will be critical in maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle. This position demands a proactive approach to material testing, documentation, and certification, as well as the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising compliance or performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Material Evaluation and Compliance: Conduct thorough technical evaluations to select suitable materials that meet project specifications, international codes, and legal requirements. Ensure all materials receive approval from consultants and statutory authorities.
• Testing and Certification Oversight: Oversee all activities related to material testing and certification, ensuring that accurate test certifications and valid documentation are maintained at all times. Verify that testing is conducted in accordance with project specifications and applicable codes.
• Material Submittals and Documentation: Ensure all material submittals comply with project and international specifications. Review engineering parameters in submittals to confirm accuracy and compliance. Maintain a comprehensive library of specification requirements for easy reference.
• Onsite Material Testing Coordination: Coordinate and oversee onsite material testing activities, ensuring that all tests are conducted in accordance with specifications and applicable codes. Verify that material test certifications are available, accurate, and up to date.
• Progress Reporting and Tracking: Provide weekly progress reports detailing material status, approvals, and any areas of concern or delay. Develop and maintain detailed material tracking schedules in accordance with project procedures.
• Value Engineering and Cost Optimization: Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions while maintaining compliance. Propose innovative material solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce costs without compromising quality or safety.
• Design Support and Documentation: Develop a strong understanding of material properties and benefits to support optimized design decisions. Prepare and maintain accurate shop drawings and as-built drawings. Ensure all required documentation is prepared in advance for project completion.
• Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and support teams by providing effective coaching and mentoring to enhance technical competencies. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Support the implementation of HSE initiatives and participate in safety awareness programs. Contribute to incident reporting and resolution in alignment with company policies and the Integrated Management System (IMS).

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of local and international specification codes, material engineering parameters, and compliance standards.
• Material Proficiency: In-depth understanding of material products, market availability (local and international), and their respective compliance standards.
• Analytical and Documentation Skills: Ability to prepare and maintain detailed tracking schedules, conduct strong analytical assessments, and produce accurate technical documentation.
• Project Management: Experience in managing material-related aspects of projects, including coordination with consultants, statutory authorities, and onsite teams.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 13 years of total experience, with at least 5 years of relevant on-the-job experience in material engineering. A minimum of 3 years of experience working in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is required.
