Position Overview
As a Maintenance Controls Technician, you will serve as a critical link in our production ecosystem, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of mission-critical systems and processes. You will collaborate with supervisors and managers across the production organization to develop and implement strategies that align with team and company objectives. Your expertise in automation and industrial controls will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the sophisticated computer control systems that drive our production automation and equipment design.
This role demands a proactive approach to teamwork and collaboration, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize processes, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our operational infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Controls Standards Development: Establish and enforce company-wide, factory-level, and line/machine-level controls standards and specifications for internal equipment development teams and external partners.
- Data Management & Network Architecture: Design and implement data management systems and tracking communications networks, interfacing with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless product, process, and quality traceability control.
- Equipment Conceptualization: Participate in the initial development of equipment, balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time constraints to deliver optimal solutions.
- PLC Programming & Debugging: Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic with a focus on creating organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code. Interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), LabView, machine vision, and third-party equipment.
- Compliance & Validation: Enforce the application of Lucid Motors standards and manage external integrators during specification, design review, and design approval phases. Develop and execute test plans to validate automated processes at vendor sites and within Lucid Motors facilities during installation and buy-off.
- Process Optimization: Characterize and validate automated processes using data-driven statistical methods, including capacity tests, capability tests (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility, Cpk, etc.), to enhance performance and reliability.
- Training & Support: Train maintenance and production teams to effectively support automated equipment post-deployment, ensuring operational continuity and efficiency.
- Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement: Debug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time, improve equipment availability, and enhance yield. Assist in developing the technical capabilities of the maintenance team to foster advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Collaborative Development: Provide input on new equipment controls during the development phase to ensure alignment with operational and strategic goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of hands-on experience as a Controls Engineer or Robotics Engineer, specializing in automation and/or electromechanical systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance activities, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) scheduling, and production/manufacturing industry best practices.
- In-depth expertise in electrical standards and relevant safety protocols to ensure compliance and operational safety.
- Advanced proficiency in programming industrial equipment, with a strong command of Siemens program functionality and troubleshooting techniques.
- Extensive experience with ladder logic PLCs, including Allen Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and RS-Logix 5000, as well as Safety PLCs such as Allen Bradley ControlLogix.
- Proficiency in Human Machine Interface (HMI/GUI) systems, including Allen Bradley PanelView and FactoryTalk View.
