Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive EHS Officer to join our team and ensure the highest standards of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance across our construction projects. In this critical role, you will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving EHS policies and procedures in alignment with international standards such as ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management), and ISO 9001 (Quality Management). Your expertise will be pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, minimizing risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance to protect our workforce and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Documentation and Planning: Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive EHS documentation, including EHS plans, emergency response plans, risk assessments (RA), method statements, and environmental management plans. Ensure these documents are updated in accordance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary EHS liaison between the project team, clients, main contractors, and headquarters (HO). Attend and contribute to EHS meetings, ensuring clear communication of safety protocols, incident reports, and compliance status.
- Training and Awareness: Conduct mandatory EHS induction training for new workers and facilitate ongoing training programs for engineers and site personnel. Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring weekly toolbox talks are delivered by engineers to reinforce EHS awareness among workers.
- Site Inspections and Compliance: Perform daily EHS inspections within assigned zones to identify hazards, verify compliance with safety protocols, and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets, safety shoes, and coveralls. Monitor the condition of equipment such as ladders and scaffolding to prevent accidents.
- Risk Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments for high-risk activities and critical operations, ensuring findings are incorporated into method statements. Implement Job EHS Analysis to minimize hazardous conditions and conduct monthly risk management audits to evaluate site safety performance.
- Incident Response and Investigation: Lead investigations into minor and major incidents or accidents, collaborating with engineers to determine root causes. Communicate investigation results to workers and engineers to implement preventive measures and avoid recurrence. Administer first aid and coordinate medical assistance in case of injuries.
- Housekeeping and Welfare: Ensure optimal health and hygiene conditions on-site, including the availability of clean water, rest areas, and adequate lighting and ventilation. Maintain high standards of housekeeping to prevent incidents and accidents.
- Permit and Audit Management: Facilitate the implementation of the work permit system and coordinate external EHS audits and third-party equipment inspections. Prepare emergency preparedness plans and conduct regular emergency drills to ensure preparedness for potential hazards.
- Contractual and Subcontractor Compliance: Prepare and enforce EHS conditions of contract for subcontractors, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols. Stop work immediately if unsafe practices are observed, fostering a proactive "don’t walk by" safety culture.
- Reporting and Continuous Improvement: Maintain accurate records of all EHS activities and generate regular reports for the project head and IC Head, detailing current EHS performance and areas for improvement. Contribute to the development and implementation of an upgraded integrated EHS management system, including internal audits and procedure manuals.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you should possess a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, along with relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in EHS management within the construction industry is essential.
