Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to join our esteemed healthcare organization. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with national and international regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

The Radiation Safety Officer will play a central role in the following areas:

• Program Development and Implementation: Design and execute radiation safety measures, protocols, and protective devices to align with government regulations and organizational policies. Review and approve proposals and protocols for projects involving ionizing radiation to ensure they meet safety and regulatory requirements.
• Regulatory Compliance and Collaboration: Work closely with international regulatory agencies to stay updated on radiation protection standards, guidelines, and emerging best practices. Periodically update the Radiation Safety Manual to reflect current regulations and organizational needs.
• Policy Enforcement and Reporting: Execute and enforce policies established by the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC). Report any radiation hazards, serious infractions, or deviations from approved practices to the RSC. Maintain effective communication with the Hospital Safety Committee to ensure a cohesive safety framework.
• Equipment Monitoring and Record-Keeping: Conduct regular assessments of radiation-emitting equipment to verify performance and safety levels. Maintain meticulous records of radiological and environmental conditions, ensuring all activities comply with applicable regulatory standards and organizational policies.
• Recommendations and Audits: Provide expert recommendations on optimizing radiation protection standards, procedural changes, waste disposal programs for radioactive materials, and workplace safety assessments. Perform periodic audits to evaluate the adequacy of established programs and recommend corrective actions for deviations from approved practices. Maintain comprehensive documentation of radionuclide use and misuse, including thorough investigation findings and recommendations.
• Training and Awareness: Develop, organize, and deliver training programs and seminars to raise awareness and ensure compliance with all applicable radiation safety regulations among healthcare personnel and stakeholders.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to radiation safety activities. Prepare and present reports and correspondence as required by regulatory bodies and organizational leadership.
• Dose Assessment and Investigations: Undertake dose assessments for patients and monitor occupationally exposed personnel to ensure safety and compliance. Conduct investigations into radiation-related incidents and provide actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.

Required Skills and Competencies

To excel in this role, the Radiation Safety Officer must demonstrate the following competencies:

• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with area-specific tools, systems, and equipment used in radiation safety. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.

• Safety Practices: Knowledge of and adherence to safety practices related to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe operating procedures to minimize the risk of injuries and radiation exposure.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to interact perpetually with relevant stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, healthcare teams, and organizational leadership, to foster a culture of safety and compliance.

Education and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational and professional requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Health Physics, Radiological Sciences, or Nuclear Engineering). A master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
• Licensure and Registration: Must hold a valid Radiation Safety Officer licensure or equivalent from the regulatory body within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Essential registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) is required.
• Work Experience: Minimum of two years of postgraduate practical experience in a similar setting or comparable healthcare facility, with a focus on radiation safety or related fields.
  • Mandatory Requirements: Must hold a valid license from the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC) and maintain a valid classification from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
