SQL Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Database Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in SQL development with additional expertise in database administration, server infrastructure, and application support. This role is pivotal in designing, optimizing, and maintaining robust database solutions while ensuring system reliability, seamless backup operations, and efficient deployment processes. Key Responsibilities

The SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for a wide range of technical duties, including:

• Database Development and Optimization: Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries, including joins, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and subqueries, to support reporting and application requirements. Create and maintain stored procedures, functions, and reusable components to encapsulate business logic and streamline data processing.
• Performance Tuning and Monitoring: Analyze and enhance query performance using execution plans, indexing strategies, and profiling tools. Monitor SQL Server environments across development, user acceptance testing (UAT), and production stages, ensuring optimal isolation levels and transaction handling to maintain data integrity and consistency.
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Administer and maintain SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, particularly on SQL Server 2022, to ensure failover readiness, replica health, and minimal downtime. Oversee backup and recovery operations using industry-leading solutions such as Veeam and Veritas NetBackup, including restore testing and comprehensive documentation of recovery procedures.
• Security and Compliance: Implement and manage robust database security protocols, including user access controls, role-based permissions, and auditing mechanisms to safeguard sensitive information and comply with regulatory standards.
• Infrastructure and Application Support: Provide technical support for IIS administration, including configuration of application pools, site management, and SSL certificate handling. Deploy and troubleshoot .NET web applications, monitoring logs and resolving issues to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
• Server and Storage Management: Collaborate with infrastructure teams to oversee physical server management and Windows Server environments, ensuring optimal database performance and seamless coordination across systems.
• Incident Resolution and Maintenance: Proactively monitor database environments to identify and resolve alerts, job failures, and incidents within defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Perform routine maintenance tasks such as index optimization, statistics updates, and integrity checks to maintain database health and efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Technical Proficiency: Minimum of three years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including advanced T-SQL skills such as joins, stored procedures, functions, CTEs, and subqueries.
• Performance Optimization: Demonstrated expertise in query performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and indexing strategies to enhance database efficiency.
• High Availability Solutions: Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, particularly on SQL Server 2022, including failover management and replica health monitoring.
• Backup and Recovery: Familiarity with Veeam Backup & Replication and Veritas NetBackup, including backup scheduling, restore testing, and documentation of recovery procedures.
• Web and Application Support: Basic knowledge of IIS administration, including application pool management, site configurations, and SSL certificate administration. Exposure to .NET web application deployment and troubleshooting is a plus.
• Infrastructure Coordination: Understanding of physical server management and Windows Server environments, with the ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure teams to optimize database performance.
