Key Responsibilities
The Estimation Engineer will play a pivotal role in managing the complete mechanical MEP tender lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:
- Tender Analysis: Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) to fully understand project requirements.
- Cost Estimation: Analyse project scope and prepare accurate cost estimates, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and client expectations.
- Quantity Take-Offs: Perform detailed quantity take-offs to determine material and resource requirements for mechanical MEP systems.
- Rate Build-Ups & Pricing Schedules: Develop comprehensive rate build-ups and pricing schedules, incorporating labour, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Management: Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality standards.
- Tender Submissions: Prepare both technical and commercial tender submissions, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with client requirements.
- Client & Consultant Coordination: Address tender clarifications and coordinate with clients and consultants to resolve queries and provide additional information.
- Value Engineering & Cost Optimisation: Participate in value engineering exercises to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or performance.
- Post-Tender Support: Support negotiations and post-tender activities, ensuring a smooth transition to the Operations team for awarded projects.
- Project Handover: Facilitate the handover of awarded projects to the Operations team, ensuring all tender documentation and cost details are accurately transferred.
Essential Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of dedicated experience within Tendering, Estimation, or Pre-Contracts Departments.
- Contractor-Side Experience: Proven experience working on the contractor side, with a strong understanding of the tendering process from receipt to submission.
- Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of mechanical MEP estimation, including HVAC systems, plumbing, fire fighting, chilled water systems, water supply & drainage, mechanical plant rooms, mechanical infrastructure, and piping systems.
- Estimation Skills: Strong expertise in BOQs, quantity take-offs, cost estimation, supplier & subcontractor RFQs, technical and commercial proposal preparation, pricing strategy, and tender clarifications.
Preferred Experience
While not mandatory, candidates with the following experience will be highly regarded:
- Experience working with Main Contractors, MEP Contractors, or Design & Build Contractors.
- Background in large building construction projects, industrial projects, or infrastructure projects.
- Prior experience in Saudi Arabia or the wider GCC region.
