Position Overview

The Manual Tack-off Operator is a critical role within our paint shop operations, responsible for ensuring that vehicle bodies are meticulously prepared for primer, basecoat, and clearcoat applications. This position involves removing dust, lint, fibers, and minor surface contaminants to achieve paint-ready surfaces, thereby preventing defects and enhancing first-pass yield. By maintaining the highest cleanliness standards, the Manual Tack-off Operator directly contributes to the appearance quality of our vehicles, reduces defects, and ensures customer satisfaction. This role is essential to the final stages of surface preparation and requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to strict quality protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform manual tack-off on vehicle bodies prior to paint application to remove dust, loose particles, fibers, and minor surface contamination.
• Utilize approved tack cloths, air blowers, and cleaning tools in accordance with established work instructions to ensure thorough cleaning.
• Ensure complete coverage of exterior surfaces, interior visible areas, edges, and critical zones to meet paint-ready cleanliness standards.
• Follow the correct tack-off sequence and standard movement techniques to maintain consistency and efficiency.
• Identify and report abnormal contamination, such as oil spots, water marks, or paint defects, to prevent quality issues.
• Avoid introducing secondary contamination during the tack-off process to maintain surface integrity.
• Support appearance quality targets by preventing dirt-related paint defects and adhering to control plans and inspection criteria.
• Comply with all safety protocols related to paint booth and material handling areas, including the proper use of PPE such as gloves, masks, coveralls, and safety shoes.
• Handle tack cloths and cleaning materials according to safety guidelines to prevent residue or contamination.
• Maintain clean and organized workstations to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
• Properly use and maintain tack cloths, air blow guns, and cleaning tools to prevent overuse or misuse that may compromise quality.
• Report damaged tools or abnormal conditions immediately to ensure timely resolution and maintain operational efficiency.
• Support minor housekeeping and equipment checks as required to uphold production standards.
• Achieve assigned takt time and production targets consistently while following standard work instructions and paint shop discipline.
• Participate in shift handovers and daily production communication to ensure seamless line continuity and minimize delays or rework.
• Actively engage in 5S and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and quality.

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic understanding of safety and cleanliness requirements in paint operations.
• Willingness to work in shifts and adhere to production schedules to support operational demands.
