Position Overview

NextEra is seeking highly motivated and skilled Application Engineers to join our dynamic team as Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Engineers. This role is critical to ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of our enterprise applications, microservices, and API layers. The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and managing enterprise-grade APM solutions to proactively detect, analyze, and resolve performance issues across production environments. With a focus on root cause analysis, performance optimization, and capacity planning, this role plays a pivotal part in maintaining high service levels and enhancing user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • APM Platform Management: Deploy, configure, and manage APM agents across web applications, microservices, and API environments to ensure comprehensive performance monitoring.
  • Dashboard and Alerting Development: Design and implement dashboards and alerting mechanisms to track Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and detect anomalies in real-time.
  • Performance Analysis and Optimization: Conduct thorough root cause analysis for application degradation, latency issues, and performance bottlenecks, followed by actionable recommendations for resolution and optimization.
  • Integration and Automation: Integrate APM tools with IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms such as ServiceNow and Jira to streamline incident correlation and resolution processes.
  • Container and Cloud-Native Monitoring: Monitor containerized workloads, including Kubernetes and Docker environments, as well as cloud-native services to ensure seamless performance in modern architectures.
  • Performance Metrics and Capacity Planning: Define, track, and analyze key performance metrics such as throughput, error rates, Apdex scores, and baseline performance to support strategic capacity planning initiatives.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development, operations, and DevOps teams to provide insights and recommendations that enhance application performance and reliability.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • APM Platform Proficiency: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with enterprise APM platforms such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or New Relic in production environments. At least one APM platform certification is mandatory (e.g., Dynatrace DCA/DCP, Cisco AppDynamics Certified Performance Analyst, or New Relic Certified Performance Pro).
  • Application Stack Awareness: Strong understanding of web application monitoring, including Java, .NET, and Node.js stacks, as well as microservices and API monitoring (REST/GraphQL, service mesh awareness).
  • Log Analytics Integration: Experience integrating APM tools with log analytics platforms such as Splunk or ELK for comprehensive observability.
  • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in basic scripting languages such as Python or Shell for automating monitoring and analysis tasks.
  • ITIL Foundation: Minimum certification in ITIL Foundation to ensure alignment with best practices in IT service management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cloud Monitoring Experience: Familiarity with cloud monitoring tools such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) monitoring, AWS CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor.
  • Distributed Tracing: Exposure to OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing technologies for enhanced observability in complex architectures.
  • Kubernetes Observability: Experience with Kubernetes observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring containerized workloads.

Evaluation Criteria

To be considered for this role, each candidate must meet the following evaluation criteria:

  • Certification: A valid certification in one of the required APM platforms (Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or New Relic).
  • Project Experience: At least one documented project example demonstrating expertise in web, microservices, or API monitoring.
  • APM-Specific Experience: Minimum of 4 years of verifiable experience in APM-specific roles, excluding generic infrastructure monitoring.

Join NextEra and contribute to a team that drives innovation, reliability, and performance excellence in enterprise applications. We offer a collaborative work environment, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies that shape the future of application performance monitoring.
