Senior Materials Engineer – Road Infrastructure Projects

WSP is currently seeking a seasoned Senior Materials Engineer with at least 15 years of specialized experience to join our dynamic team in Riyadh. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a consultative environment, offering expert guidance on material selection, testing, and quality assurance for complex road infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, highways, and tunnels. Key Responsibilities

The Senior Materials Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of material engineering within road and infrastructure projects. Your core duties will include:

• Material Selection and Testing: Lead the evaluation and selection of construction materials to meet project specifications, regulatory standards, and performance requirements. Conduct rigorous testing to validate material properties and ensure compliance with industry benchmarks.
• Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, design engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive material strategies. Provide expert advice on material suitability, performance, and cost-effectiveness to optimize project outcomes.
• Site Inspections and Evaluations: Perform detailed site inspections to assess material performance during construction phases. Identify potential issues early and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks and ensure project continuity.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare, review, and approve technical reports, including material test results, compliance certificates, and engineering specifications. Maintain accurate records to support project audits and regulatory submissions.
• Supplier and Contractor Coordination: Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure the timely procurement, delivery, and storage of high-quality materials. Monitor supply chain activities to prevent delays and maintain project schedules.
• Quality Assurance and Control: Implement and enforce stringent quality control measures throughout the material procurement and construction process. Oversee laboratory and field testing procedures to verify material performance against established standards.
• Mentorship and Training: Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development. Share best practices in material engineering to enhance team capabilities.
• Stakeholder Communication: Represent the materials engineering function in project meetings, presenting findings, recommendations, and technical insights to stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies. Ensure clear and concise communication of complex technical concepts.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in materials engineering, with a strong focus on road and infrastructure projects. Prior involvement in supervisory or consultative roles within road, bridge, highway, or tunnel projects is essential.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of material properties, testing methodologies, and industry standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, or equivalent. Familiarity with advanced analytical tools and software used in materials engineering is highly desirable.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
