Senior Keycloak Administrator

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Keycloak Administrator to spearhead the design, deployment, and continuous management of our identity and access management (IAM) infrastructure. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring robust authentication and authorization mechanisms across enterprise applications, optimizing system performance, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate Keycloak with both cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in Keycloak administration, a comprehensive understanding of security protocols such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SAML, and the capability to resolve complex issues in high-availability setups.

Key Responsibilities

• Keycloak Administration and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Keycloak servers with a focus on realm management, user federation (including LDAP/Active Directory integration), and the development of custom themes for login, registration, and admin consoles to enhance user experience and security.
• IAM Solution Design and Implementation: Architect and deploy secure authentication and authorization solutions using Keycloak, leveraging protocols such as OIDC, OAuth2, and SAML. Facilitate seamless integration with internal and external applications, APIs, and third-party services to enable robust identity federation.
• Infrastructure Management: Oversee Keycloak clustering, high-availability configurations, performance tuning, and real-time monitoring. Manage upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery protocols to ensure uninterrupted service with a target uptime of 99.9%.
• Security and Compliance: Implement role-based access control (RBAC), fine-grained permissions, and security policies. Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and ensure adherence to industry standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
• Troubleshooting and Optimization: Diagnose and resolve critical incidents related to authentication failures, token issues, or integration challenges. Optimize Keycloak for scalability in cloud (e.g., AWS, Azure) or hybrid environments to support growing business demands.
• Collaboration and Documentation: Partner with development, DevOps, and security teams to provide expert guidance on best practices. Maintain meticulous documentation for configurations, operational processes, and troubleshooting guides to ensure knowledge continuity.
• Custom Development (as needed): Develop and maintain custom Keycloak extensions, providers, or scripts using Java or REST APIs to deliver tailored functionality that aligns with organizational requirements.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in IAM administration, with at least 3 years dedicated to Keycloak administration and enterprise deployments.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Keycloak features, including realms, clients, roles, users, events, and the Admin REST API. Strong understanding of identity protocols such as OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, and JWT, along with related tools like LDAP and Kerberos.
• Cloud and Containerization: Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) to deploy and manage Keycloak in scalable environments.
• Database and Monitoring: Familiarity with databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL for Keycloak persistence, as well as monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana for performance tracking and alerting.
