Communication Engineer

Job Purpose

As a Communication Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining the organization’s communication and networking infrastructure to ensure seamless, secure, and high-performance connectivity across all healthcare facilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting critical healthcare operations by guaranteeing uninterrupted voice, data, and video communications, all while adhering to clinical, operational, and regulatory standards. This role is essential in enabling the organization’s IT and digital transformation initiatives, ensuring that communication systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Leadership

• Ensure all work is executed in strict compliance with approved policies, processes, procedures, and instructions to maintain operational integrity and consistency.
• Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in systems, processes, and practices by leveraging industry-leading methodologies, cost optimization strategies, and productivity enhancements.
• Oversee day-to-day activities to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures, fostering a culture of accountability and efficiency.
• Follow up on escalated cases and issues reported by team members to ensure timely resolution and minimize operational disruptions.
• Actively contribute to the organization’s IT and digital transformation strategy, driving innovation and modernization in communication technologies.

Network & Communication Infrastructure Management

• Design, implement, and manage robust LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data center network infrastructures to support seamless connectivity across healthcare facilities.
• Provide ongoing support and maintenance for IP telephony (VoIP), unified communications, video conferencing, and paging systems to facilitate effective collaboration and communication.
• Ensure high availability and redundancy of network and communication services to mitigate risks and maintain operational continuity.

System Operations & Support

• Monitor network performance, proactively troubleshoot incidents, and resolve communication-related issues to minimize downtime and enhance user experience.
• Perform configuration, upgrades, patching, and optimization of communication systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
• Provide technical support for healthcare applications that rely on network connectivity, including Hospital Information Systems (HIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), VoIP, and telemedicine platforms.

Security & Compliance Assurance

• Implement and maintain robust network security controls, including firewalls, VPNs, Network Access Control (NAC), and encryption, to safeguard sensitive data and communication channels.
• Ensure compliance with Saudi data protection laws, including the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), and adhere to the National Cybersecurity Authority’s (NCA) Essential Cybersecurity Controls (ECC) and organizational IT security policies.
• Support cybersecurity assessments, audits, and incident response activities to maintain a secure and resilient communication environment.

Project & Vendor Management

• Participate in IT infrastructure and communication-related projects, including hospital expansions and new site deployments, to ensure seamless integration and scalability.
• Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and telecom operators to ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and timely delivery of services.
• Review technical designs, proposals, and deliverables from vendors to ensure alignment with organizational standards and requirements.

Documentation & Standards Compliance

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date network diagrams, configurations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation to support operational excellence and knowledge transfer.
• Ensure adherence to IT standards, industry best practices, and healthcare regulatory requirements to maintain compliance and operational integrity.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Evaluate emerging communication technologies and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency, security, and user experience.
• Support the adoption of cloud-based, SD-WAN, and modern communication solutions to align with evolving business needs and technological advancements.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the IT team to foster skill development and operational excellence.

Qualifications & Experience

Technical Expertise

• Proven expertise in LAN/WAN, routing, switching, wireless networking, VoIP, and unified communications technologies.
• Hands-on experience working with enterprise networking equipment from leading vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, and Aruba.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges efficiently.

Industry Knowledge

• In-depth understanding of healthcare systems and infrastructure, including EMR, HIS, and ERP solutions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Saudi ICT regulations, cybersecurity standards, and healthcare accreditation requirements to ensure compliance and operational excellence.

Soft Skills & Collaboration

• Effective communication skills in both Arabic and English, both written and verbal, to facilitate clear and concise interactions with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, prioritizing tasks based on impact and urgency to ensure optimal resource allocation.
• Strong documentation and reporting abilities to maintain transparency and support informed decision-making.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
