The role of a Lead Secondary Engineer is to plan and execute departmental operations or professional activities within a technical discipline, with a degree of autonomy guided by established policies and final results analysis. This position is authorized to modify procedures and practices related to tasks, provided final results meet acceptability standards (quality, volume, timelines, etc.).

Responsibilities include identifying, developing, evaluating, implementing, and managing engineering solutions to meet technological needs in product and system control. This involves applying control theory and mathematical modeling to design and control systems with desired behaviors, considering operability, limit definition, cycle optimization, control logic, control software, sensors, hardware and software algorithms, and performance feedback for devices, subsystems, and systems.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of a technical discipline, analytical mindset, and technical experience to implement policy/strategy. They should also possess a thorough knowledge of best practices and how their domain integrates with others, as well as practical knowledge of competition and market differentiation factors.

They should be able to propose different solutions outside defined parameters to handle complex manufacturing processes with various technical aspects and/or interdependent production cycles, leveraging their technical experience and analytical skills. They should also be able to act as a resource for less experienced colleagues, potentially lead small projects with low risk and resource needs, facilitate consensus around domain-related topics, and manage sensitive issues.

Qualifications vary by location: for roles outside the US, a significant amount of relevant experience and equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required; for roles in the US, a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent combination of education and experience is needed. Strong oral and written communication skills, relational and leadership skills, and the ability to influence others and lead small teams are desired.
