Key Responsibilities

As a Founding Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in defining the technical vision and execution of Axia’s Smartomics app. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the full-stack development of a high-impact application designed to process and analyze multimodal health data.
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, clinicians, and product managers, to ensure the app meets the needs of researchers and healthcare professionals.
• Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Driving the adoption of best practices in software development, including scalability, security, and performance optimization.

As the Data Platform Owner, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust data infrastructure capable of handling complex, multimodal datasets. Your key duties will involve:

• Architecting and optimizing a HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based data platform on AWS, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility.
• Developing scalable solutions for storing, processing, and analyzing genomics and health data, with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to define data governance policies, access controls, and compliance frameworks.
• Leading initiatives to integrate and harmonize disparate data sources, enabling seamless cross-modal analysis and insights.

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking candidates with a proven track record in software development and a passion for building research infrastructure. Ideal applicants will meet the following criteria:

• Full-Stack Development: Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in software development, with expertise across the full technology stack.
• Leadership and People Management: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, mentor engineers, and drive technical excellence in a collaborative environment.
• AWS and Cloud Infrastructure: At least 3 years of experience designing and managing HIPAA-compliant infrastructure on AWS, including expertise in security, scalability, and cost optimization.
• Genomics and Multimodal Health Data: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with genomics data, multimodal health datasets, or related fields, with a deep understanding of data challenges and solutions.
• Startup Experience: Prior involvement in an early-stage startup or high-growth company, where you contributed to building scalable systems from the ground up.
• Strong Technical Opinions: A passion for designing and optimizing research infrastructure, with a clear vision for how multimodal data can drive breakthroughs in healthcare.
