Key Responsibilities

The Laboratory Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of laboratory tests while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance. Your responsibilities will include:

• Specimen and Test Processing: Efficiently process all laboratory test requisitions and specimens, adhering to clinical policies and standard precautions. Ensure timely and appropriate handling of STAT, outpatient, and time-sensitive draws while prioritizing tasks effectively.
• Work Organization and Efficiency: Organize daily tasks to maximize productivity, adjust schedules as needed, and utilize supplies and equipment responsibly to minimize waste. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues across departments.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance: Monitor specimen examinations and test analyses to ensure optimal analytic performance. Maintain organized and complete unit files, and communicate lab inquiries through official channels such as emails. Strictly adhere to laboratory policies and accreditation standards.
• Sample Management: Receive, sort, and store samples according to laboratory protocols, ensuring proper labeling, identification, and volume. Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood and urine, using advanced lab analyzers while verifying patient test results for accuracy.
• Inventory and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment to support seamless operations. Ensure continuous education in quality, safety, and infection control practices.
• Team Collaboration and Leadership: Work collaboratively within a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to a culture of excellence. Assist other laboratory personnel as needed and accept responsibility for shift adjustments when required. Demonstrate loyalty and teamwork both within the laboratory and across interdepartmental teams.
• Problem-Solving and Independence: Exercise independent judgment and take initiative in handling unexpected situations. Seek guidance from the Chief Laboratory Supervisor or designee when addressing technical or personnel challenges.
• Professional Development and Reporting: Participate in monthly Quality Management (QM) meetings, presenting activities and metric outcomes for review. Develop and implement remedial action plans and quality improvement initiatives as assigned. Present test results only after corrective actions and system functionality have been verified.
• Administrative and Operational Support: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Lab Director or Lab Supervisor to ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory. Maintain a neat appearance, adhere to dress codes, and always wear a lab coat (or approved apron/gown) and name tag.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from a recognized university. A Master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable.
• Experience: A minimum of four years of clinical laboratory experience following qualification as a Medical Technologist. At least two years of senior technologist experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
• Licensure: A valid license from the Saudi Commission for Healthcare Specialties as a Medical Technologist.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in conducting chemical analyses of body fluids, operating lab analyzers, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
