Safety Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Engineer to oversee environmental and safety operations during the construction phase of our new facility. This critical role will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations while managing key initiatives such as environmental impact assessments, waste management, air pollution control, and ISO certifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in environmental engineering, safety management, and regulatory compliance, with a proven ability to coordinate with government agencies, consulting firms, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The Safety Engineer will be responsible for the following core functions:

• Environmental Management & Regulatory Compliance
  • Review and ensure adherence to KSA and KAEC environmental regulations, including environmental impact assessments (EIA) and permit applications.
  • Coordinate with local consulting firms and government agencies, such as the National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC), to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Monitor and manage environmental compliance during equipment installation and commissioning phases.
• Waste Management & Pollution Control
  • Oversee the implementation of waste management processes for non-hazardous, hazardous, and recyclable waste in automotive manufacturing operations.
  • Manage third-party waste vendors, including selection, contract negotiation, and performance monitoring.
  • Conduct internal audits and training programs to ensure proper waste handling, storage, and disposal procedures are followed.
• Air Pollution Control (RTO System)
  • Operate and monitor air pollution control systems, with a focus on Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTO) in the paint shop.
  • Ensure system performance meets regulatory standards by monitoring emissions and maintaining air quality compliance.
• Water & Wastewater Management
  • Monitor influent and effluent water quality, manage chemical dosing processes, and ensure compliance with discharge standards.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing and submit mandatory reports to local water authorities.
• Construction Safety Management
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Conduct risk assessments (RA) and maintain detailed documentation to mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Provide safety guidelines and enforce compliance standards for subcontractors to ensure a safe working environment.
• ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Certification & Compliance
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) standards for the new factory.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with KAEC environmental and safety regulations.
  • Provide ISO-related training across all departments to foster a culture of continuous improvement in HSE practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry, preferably within automotive manufacturing or a similar high-risk environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTO), Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP), waste handling systems, and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 certification processes.
• Technical & Soft Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of safety, health, environmental, and fire protection regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to train and influence cross-functional teams.
• Language Proficiency:
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Proficiency in Arabic is a preferred asset.
