About the Role

Oivan is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team, with a strong preference for Saudi nationals. The ideal candidate will possess at least three years of hands-on experience in database management, specializing in PostgreSQL Patroni, pgbouncer, HAProxy, and MongoDB. This on-site position is based at our client’s premises in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and requires fluency in both Arabic and English to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

As a Database Administrator at Oivan, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-impact technical solutions that align with organizational goals and client expectations. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire database lifecycle, including:

  • Database Lifecycle Management: Install, configure, upgrade, patch, migrate, and administer enterprise databases across multiple platforms, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL/MariaDB, and SQL Server.
  • Operational Stability: Manage day-to-day database operations to ensure platforms are stable, available, and production-ready.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and maintain HA/DR solutions using technologies such as PostgreSQL Patroni, pgbouncer, HAProxy, MongoDB Replica Sets, and Galera Cluster. Configure replication, failover, switchover, backup, and restore mechanisms to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Backup and Recovery: Own and execute backup and recovery strategies using tools like pgBackRest for PostgreSQL and native database backup solutions for other engines. Validate restore procedures and ensure disaster recovery readiness through rigorous testing and operational support.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, execution plan analysis, monitoring, and capacity planning. Troubleshoot production issues, identify bottlenecks, and enhance database efficiency and scalability.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain robust database security controls, including encryption at rest and in transit, TLS/SSL, access controls, user/role management, auditing, and hardening. Ensure secure database operations in alignment with enterprise best practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to support migrations, deployments, troubleshooting, and production support. Clearly communicate incidents, risks, architectural decisions, and operational recommendations to stakeholders.

Opportunities for Growth

In addition to your core responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Automate Database Operations: Streamline database administration and operational tasks using Shell/Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, Git/GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines. Standardize deployments to reduce manual effort and improve repeatability across environments.
  • Cross-Platform Support: Work across Linux and Windows server environments to support database infrastructure and operational tooling.
  • Proactive Monitoring: Utilize monitoring and operational tools to maintain service health and support early detection of potential issues.

Your Qualifications

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migration, and administration. Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL Patroni, pgbouncer, HAProxy, MongoDB Replica Sets, MySQL Galera Cluster, and SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.
  • HA/DR and Performance Skills: Experience with High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), replication, failover, and backup & recovery strategies using pgBackRest (PostgreSQL) and native database backup tools. Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, monitoring, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
  • Security Proficiency: Strong experience in database security, including Data Encryption (TDE, TLS/SSL, encryption at rest/in transit), user and role management, access controls, auditing, and security hardening.
  • Automation and Scripting: Proficiency in Shell/Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Git/GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps).
  • Operational Experience: Familiarity with Windows and Linux administration, database monitoring tools, and enterprise operational best practices.

If you are a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a passion for database management and a commitment to delivering high-quality technical solutions, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity at Oivan.
