Role Overview

The Lean Systems Coach plays a pivotal role in advancing the Lucid Production System (LPS) by championing lean manufacturing initiatives across the organization. Reporting to the Lean Systems Manager, this position adopts a hands-on, shop-floor-focused approach to cultivate a robust lean culture and foster continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, and productivity. The Lean Systems Coach applies core lean methodologies—including problem-solving, standardization, waste elimination, and process optimization—to support operational teams and lead impactful improvement projects. This role collaborates with employees at all levels to identify inefficiencies, implement sustainable solutions, and strengthen daily management systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • LPS Implementation: Ensure the principles of the Lucid Production System are consistently applied across all operational areas, driving alignment with organizational goals.
  • Employee Engagement: Optimize participation in all LPS programs by fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement among teams.
  • Roadblock Elimination: Identify and remove barriers to continuous improvement, enabling smoother and more efficient processes.
  • Training and Coaching: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees at all levels on lean principles and their practical applications.
  • Program Reviews: Facilitate LPS program review meetings to assess progress, address challenges, and drive accountability.
  • Process Audits: Conduct layered audits and process reviews to ensure adherence to standards and identify opportunities for enhancement.
  • Gemba Walks: Lead and support departmental Gemba walks to observe operations firsthand, gather insights, and drive meaningful improvements.
  • Performance Analysis: Monitor departmental performance metrics and analyze data to pinpoint focused opportunities for cost reduction, productivity gains, utilization improvements, and quality enhancements.
  • Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure factory performance objectives are met across key performance indicators, including safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Lean Tools Development: Develop, implement, and maintain lean tools, systems, and procedures, with a current focus on problem-solving, performance management, continuous improvement, 6S (5S plus Safety), and standardization.
  • Kaizen Workshops: Champion regular Kaizen workshops with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and drive tangible results.
  • Business Process Automation: Utilize business process automation tools to monitor operational performance and ensure data-driven decision-making.
  • Work Instruction Management: Oversee work instruction software, ensuring standard compliance, authoring necessary changes, and maintaining control over documentation.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Automotive OEM Experience: Proven experience working in an automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) environment is required.
  • Continuous Improvement Expertise: Strong background in automotive manufacturing continuous improvement, with prior experience in a lean-related role being highly advantageous.
  • Lean Principles Proficiency: Deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles, both in theory and practical application, with hands-on experience in implementation.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to effectively influence and collaborate with teams at all levels.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor employees, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven track record in identifying inefficiencies and implementing sustainable solutions to drive operational excellence.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment while maintaining a focus on results and continuous improvement.
