Position Overview

As a Medical Science Liaison (Biosimilar), you will serve as a pivotal scientific expert within our Established Pharmaceuticals division, fostering meaningful relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, and healthcare professionals. This role is based in Riyadh and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of biosimilar therapies while driving scientific excellence and medical education in a dynamic and fast-growing market.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-level scientific and technical support to internal and external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include:
- Scientific Leadership: Act as a trusted scientific expert in the therapeutic area, developing and delivering resources that empower the therapy team to address complex medical and scientific inquiries with precision and credibility.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with KOLs, academic centers, and medical societies to ensure seamless access to current medical and scientific information. Serve as a liaison between Abbott and the medical community to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration.
- Medical Affairs Support: Contribute to medical affairs initiatives, including continuing medical education (CME), advisory boards, and scientific reviews. Assist in the planning and execution of local clinical trials, investigator meetings, and educational programs to enhance clinical understanding and adoption of biosimilar therapies.
- Information Dissemination: Respond promptly and accurately to internal and external scientific and medical queries, including adverse event reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. Deliver credible presentations and scientific updates to physicians, healthcare teams, and internal stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.
- Competitive Intelligence: Monitor and analyze competitor strategies, product positioning, and scientific trends within the therapeutic area. Communicate insights to relevant teams to inform strategic planning and maintain Abbott’s competitive edge in the market.
- Conference and Society Engagement: Represent Abbott at national and international scientific conferences, symposia, and society meetings. Develop comprehensive summaries of key scientific messages, trends, and innovations to share internally and externally, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Ethical and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities and interactions adhere to local, regional, and global regulatory requirements, including guidelines for named patient programs and compassionate use initiatives. Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, marketing, and medical teams to enhance their scientific and technical expertise through tailored training sessions, scientific update presentations, and educational materials. Support the development of evidence-based strategies to drive product adoption and market penetration.
- Publication Support: Provide scientific and technical guidance to internal teams and KOLs on the development of publications, abstracts, and presentations of medical or scientific interest. Ensure that all materials reflect Abbott’s commitment to scientific rigor and transparency.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, you will possess a strong academic background in a relevant scientific or medical discipline, such as pharmacology, biochemistry, or medicine, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degrees are preferred). You will also have:
- Proven experience as a Medical Science Liaison, Medical Advisor, or similar role within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with a focus on biosimilars or related therapeutic areas.
- A deep understanding of clinical development, regulatory pathways, and the scientific principles underlying biosimilar therapies.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with KOLs, academic institutions, and medical societies.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Fluency in English is required; additional proficiency in Arabic is a strong asset.
