Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Head of Finance to oversee the financial operations of our organization, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all financial transactions across our business units. This pivotal role will be responsible for driving financial excellence, implementing robust controls, and providing critical insights to support executive decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in finance and accounting, with a proven track record in leadership, strategic planning, and financial management within the healthcare sector. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position will supervise finance managers across all business units and collaborate closely with the Chief Accountant in the Head Office to maintain financial health and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Finance will play a central role in shaping the financial landscape of the organization by executing the following core responsibilities:

  • Financial Governance and Compliance: Implement and enforce robust processes and controls to ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately, timely, and in full compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. This includes overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes to meet reporting deadlines consistently.
  • Taxation and Regulatory Affairs: Manage the company’s taxation affairs, including liaising with external tax consultants, ensuring adherence to tax laws, and implementing controls to mitigate risks. This role will also oversee the preparation and submission of tax filings to maintain compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Cash Flow and Financial Forecasting: Develop and maintain accurate 3-month cash flow forecasts to support liquidity planning and strategic decision-making. This includes monitoring cash flow trends, identifying variances, and recommending corrective actions to optimize financial performance.
  • Financial Reporting and Decision Support: Provide timely and accurate financial data to the senior leadership team to facilitate informed business decisions. This includes preparing management reports, analyzing financial performance, and presenting insights on key financial metrics.
  • Banking and Debt Management: Oversee the company’s banking relationships, borrowing arrangements, and compliance with financial covenants. This role will negotiate terms with financial institutions, manage debt schedules, and ensure adherence to loan agreements to maintain financial stability.
  • Financial Systems and Technology: Lead the management and optimization of the company’s financial systems, ensuring they are secure, efficient, and aligned with business needs. This includes overseeing system upgrades, user training, and process improvements to enhance financial operations.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This includes overseeing the professional growth of finance managers, accountants, and support staff across all business units.
  • Budgeting and Financial Controls: Manage the budgeting process, track financial performance against targets, and implement corrective actions as needed. This includes overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tax, and financial accounting functions to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Review, update, and enforce financial policies and procedures to ensure they remain current, relevant, and aligned with industry best practices. This includes conducting regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate financial risks.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess the requisite experience:

  • Education: A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership capacity. Direct experience in healthcare finance and accounting is essential, with a strong preference for candidates with prior involvement in hospital finance operations, particularly in billing and collections.
  • Technical and Leadership Skills:
    • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of healthcare finance, including familiarity with healthcare terminology, accounts receivable processes, and regulatory requirements.
    • Leadership: Proven ability to guide teams toward achieving strategic objectives, setting high performance standards, and delivering quality financial services.
    • Strategic Execution: Experience in developing, deploying, and managing complex financial programs and processes to drive operational excellence.
    • Financial Management: Proficiency in applying financial tools and processes to manage budgets, optimize resources, and achieve financial targets.
    • Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
    • Analytical and Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform complex calculations, reconcile figures, and identify trends or anomalies in financial data.
    • Adaptability and Organization: Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, work independently or collaboratively, and adapt to evolving business needs while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
