Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Materials Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, compliance, and performance of all construction materials used in our projects. This position requires a strong background in civil or materials engineering, along with extensive hands-on experience in material inspection, testing, and verification. The Materials Inspector will work closely with project teams, contractors, and laboratories to uphold the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

The Materials Inspector will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

  • Material Inspection and Verification: Conduct thorough inspections of incoming construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, and soil, to ensure they meet approved specifications and project requirements.
  • Laboratory Testing Oversight: Witness and review critical laboratory tests, such as compressive strength, density, gradation, and moisture content, to validate material performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Verify that all materials adhere to project standards, codes, and technical requirements, including approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), material sampling procedures, and quality control protocols.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed inspection reports, test summaries, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and follow up on corrective actions to address any deviations or deficiencies identified during inspections.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work effectively with engineers, contractors, and laboratory personnel to resolve material-related issues, ensuring seamless project execution and adherence to timelines.
  • Site Verification and Monitoring: Confirm proper storage, handling, and usage of materials on-site to prevent contamination, degradation, or misuse that could compromise project integrity.

Qualifications and Skills

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in materials inspection and quality control, or 12 years of direct field experience in a related capacity.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction materials, testing standards, and quality control procedures, with familiarity in ASTM, AASHTO, or equivalent industry standards.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to identify non-conforming materials and enforce corrective actions, coupled with strong reporting and interpersonal skills to liaise with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to inspection and testing, ensuring accuracy and reliability in all assessments.
