Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Risk Officer to join our team and play a pivotal role in advancing HMMME’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programme. In this critical position, you will be responsible for executing comprehensive risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting activities to ensure robust risk oversight across the organization. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining the enterprise risk register, tracking Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and collaborating with risk owners to implement effective mitigation strategies. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to communicate risk insights clearly to senior management and the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC).
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Risk Officer will support the delivery of the ERM programme through the following core responsibilities:
- Risk Identification and Assessment:
- Lead and execute risk identification and assessment activities, including facilitating or co-facilitating risk workshops with risk owners.
- Document risks, their causes, consequences, and existing controls in alignment with the Company’s risk scoring methodology.
- Conduct in-depth risk assessments and scenario analyses on critical risk areas such as supply chain and logistics, project delivery, and compliance.
- Risk Register and Monitoring:
- Act as the day-to-day custodian of the enterprise risk register, ensuring all entries are complete, accurate, and up-to-date with proper ownership assigned.
- Develop, monitor, and maintain Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), collecting relevant data, tracking threshold breaches, and escalating adverse trends to the Risk Manager.
- Perform horizon scanning to identify emerging risks and proactively escalate them for further evaluation.
- Risk Treatment and Mitigation:
- Track and oversee risk treatment and mitigation action plans, engaging with action owners to ensure timely completion.
- Challenge revised due dates for overdue actions and verify the closure of completed mitigation measures.
- Risk Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare draft risk reports, heat maps, KRI dashboards, and materials for the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) in collaboration with the Risk Manager.
- Ensure consistency in risk ratings and present key risk themes in a clear, concise manner to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Support the consolidation of risk information into enterprise-level themes for senior management review.
- Leadership and Collaboration:
- Support the Risk Manager in the day-to-day delivery of the ERM programme and provide guidance to junior staff, contractors, or interns as assigned.
- Coach and transfer knowledge to first-line risk owners and workshop participants to enhance risk awareness and capability.
- Collaborate across functions, including Internal Audit, Compliance, HSE, Finance, and Operations, to gather risk insights and promote a coordinated assurance approach.
- Share best practices within the Risk Team to strengthen collective expertise and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Business Partnering and Advocacy:
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with risk owners across the business to stay informed of operational developments and their potential impact on the risk profile.
- Develop internal and external relationships to facilitate the effective sharing of risk information and insights.
- Advocate for a strong risk culture within the organization and proactively propose enhancements to risk processes and tools.
- Business Continuity Support:
- Support the Business Continuity Management (BCM) programme, including business impact analysis, plan maintenance, and compliance with ISO 22301 standards.
- Budget and Policy Compliance:
- Operate within the Risk Function’s expense budget and seek prior approval from the Risk Manager for any variations, including travel and consultant costs.
- Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with the ERM Policy, methodology, and the Company’s Delegation of Authority.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; a professional certification such as CRCM, FRM, or PRM is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in risk management, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role.
- Proven expertise in enterprise risk management frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in risk management software and tools, as well as advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
