Data Engineering Team Leader

Position Overview

As the Data Engineering Team Leader, you will serve as the primary advocate for data ownership within the organization, representing the voice of the business division in executive governance committees. Your role is pivotal in ensuring that data stewardship aligns with the enterprise data management asset model while leading data initiatives at the divisional level. You will collaborate closely with business divisions to align data strategies with organizational goals, including enterprise data as an asset and information management strategies. Additionally, you will act as a bridge between business areas and other data management teams, ensuring seamless communication and adherence to policies and standards across all data sources.

Areas of Responsibility

The Data Engineering Team Leader is responsible for the following key areas:

• Policies, Processes & Procedures:

  Contribute to the development and implementation of robust Data Stewardship policies, procedures, and controls for all data sources within the assigned division. Ensure these policies are consistently applied and aligned with enterprise standards.

• Day-to-Day Operations:

  Oversee daily operations to ensure processes are executed as designed and comply with established policies, procedures, and controls. Monitor workflows to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.

• Senior Data Stewardship:

  Lead data stewardship initiatives at the divisional level, serving as the single point of contact for business units regarding their data needs. Collaborate with business areas to ensure their requirements are met and represented in data-related matters, including data requirements and provisions.

• Enterprise Data Governance Committee Representation:

  Represent the assigned business area in the Enterprise Data Governance Committee, advocating for data-driven decision-making and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

• Knowledge Transfer and Communication:

  Educate business units on the critical role of data and information in driving business success. Supervise relationships with data consumers and guide subordinates in fulfilling their roles as Enterprise Data Stewards. Foster a culture of data literacy and accountability across the organization.

• Leadership:

  Drive the achievement of Enterprise Data Steward Unit objectives by leading the team effectively. This includes setting individual goals, recruiting and developing talent, managing performance, providing constructive feedback, and conducting appraisals to maximize team and divisional performance.

Qualifications & Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:

• Education:

  Bachelor’s degree in Information Management Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) is preferred.

• Experience:

  Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience in Data and Information Management, with a focus on banking responsibilities. Proven track record in leading data initiatives and managing teams in a complex regulatory environment.

• Language Proficiency:

  Advanced proficiency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels, including top management.

• Technical Knowledge:

  In-depth understanding of the bank’s strategy, objectives, and regulatory framework. Strong project management skills and the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to executive audiences.
