Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Patient Safety and Risk Specialist/Supervisor to join our healthcare team and champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across our facilities. In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in safeguarding patient well-being by leading patient safety initiatives, managing risks, and ensuring compliance with international accreditation standards. Your expertise will drive the development and implementation of robust safety protocols, incident investigations, and quality improvement strategies to enhance patient outcomes and organizational performance.
Key Responsibilities
As a Patient Safety and Risk Specialist/Supervisor, your core responsibilities will include:
- Leading Patient Safety Initiatives: Spearhead and support patient safety programs aligned with international accreditation standards, fostering a proactive approach to risk reduction and quality enhancement.
- Incident Investigation and Analysis: Oversee the thorough investigation, analysis, and management of patient safety incidents, adverse events, and near misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct comprehensive Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards and develop effective mitigation strategies and corrective action plans.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Track and analyze patient safety indicators, prepare detailed performance reports, and provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership for continuous improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, including those set by the Joint Commission International (JCI) and the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI).
- Education and Training: Design, deliver, and evaluate patient safety education and awareness programs tailored for both clinical and non-clinical staff to promote a culture of safety and accountability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, administrators, and quality improvement specialists, to enhance the quality of care and minimize clinical risks across all departments.
- Quality Improvement Support: Actively contribute to organizational quality improvement projects and patient safety campaigns, driving measurable enhancements in care delivery and patient experiences.
Requirements and Qualifications
To excel in this role, you must meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary experience:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy, Medicine, or a related healthcare discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification in Patient Safety, Healthcare Quality, or Risk Management is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 to 10 years of progressive experience in Patient Safety, Clinical Risk Management, or Healthcare Quality within a hospital or healthcare setting, with a proven track record of implementing safety initiatives and improving care standards.
- Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of patient safety principles, risk management methodologies, and quality improvement tools, along with hands-on experience using incident reporting systems, RCA, FMEA, and healthcare accreditation standards (JCI/CBAHI).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical, communication, presentation, and report-writing skills, with the ability to articulate complex safety concepts clearly to diverse audiences. Strong leadership capabilities to guide initiatives, facilitate investigations, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
