Key Responsibilities

• Process Management: Oversee the entire herbal extraction process, from raw material preparation to final product extraction, ensuring compliance with standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines.
• Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control measures at every stage of extraction to guarantee the purity, potency, and consistency of herbal extracts. Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address any deviations or non-conformities promptly.
• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of extraction technicians and plant operators, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance team competencies and ensure adherence to best practices.
• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of extraction machinery and auxiliary equipment. Coordinate with the maintenance department to schedule preventive maintenance and address any technical issues that may arise during operations.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of local and international regulations governing herbal extraction, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other relevant standards. Ensure the plant operates in full compliance with these regulations to mitigate risks and maintain operational integrity.
• Inventory and Supply Chain Management: Monitor raw material inventory levels, track usage rates, and coordinate with procurement teams to ensure uninterrupted supply of high-quality herbs. Optimize inventory to minimize waste and reduce operational costs without compromising product quality.
• Safety and Environmental Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols to create a secure working environment for all personnel. Promote sustainable practices by minimizing waste generation, reducing energy consumption, and ensuring proper disposal of extraction by-products in accordance with environmental regulations.
• Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as extraction efficiency, yield rates, and downtime to identify areas for improvement. Prepare detailed reports on plant performance and present findings to senior management to support data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Herbal Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree or advanced certification in herbal extraction or Ayurvedic manufacturing is highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in herbal extraction, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role within the Ayurvedic or pharmaceutical industry. Experience with GMP-certified facilities is a strong advantage.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of extraction techniques such as maceration, percolation, distillation, and supercritical fluid extraction. Familiarity with extraction equipment, including Soxhlet extractors, rotary evaporators, and industrial-scale distillation units.
• Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, and foster a collaborative work environment. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing operational challenges.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements for herbal and Ayurvedic products, including documentation, audits, and compliance reporting.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze process data, interpret trends, and implement corrective actions to enhance efficiency and product quality. Proficiency in using data management software or ERP systems is a plus.
