Batterjee Medical College is seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Biomedical Technician to ensure the optimal functionality, safety, and operational readiness of biomedical, laboratory, and simulation equipment across our academic and clinical training facilities. This critical role supports education, research, and healthcare training by maintaining equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in minimizing downtime, enhancing equipment reliability, and fostering a safe and efficient learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
The Biomedical Technician will be responsible for performing both preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of biomedical and laboratory equipment. This includes diagnosing faults, executing repairs, and ensuring devices such as patient monitoring systems, laboratory diagnostics, and simulation training equipment operate at peak performance. The role requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting to reduce equipment downtime and maintain seamless operations.
Installation & Commissioning
This position involves assisting in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new biomedical equipment. The technician will verify functionality, calibration, and safety prior to operational use, ensuring proper configuration and readiness for educational and clinical applications. Attention to detail during this phase is essential to prevent operational disruptions.
Inspection & Preventive Maintenance
The technician will conduct routine inspections and scheduled preventive maintenance activities in strict adherence to manufacturer guidelines and approved checklists. By identifying potential issues early, the role helps mitigate risks and ensures equipment longevity, supporting uninterrupted academic and clinical activities.
Calibration, Testing & Quality Assurance
Responsibilities include performing calibration and functional testing where applicable, supporting quality assurance checks, and coordinating external calibration services as needed. This ensures all equipment meets regulatory and performance standards, contributing to the accuracy and reliability of training and research activities.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
The Biomedical Technician will respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and user complaints, providing efficient troubleshooting and resolution. Additionally, the role involves offering basic technical guidance and support to users, fostering a collaborative environment and enhancing operational efficiency.
Asset Management & Documentation
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records is a critical aspect of this role. The technician will manage equipment inventory, asset tagging, and service history documentation, ensuring all records are complete, organized, and audit-ready. This supports compliance and facilitates informed decision-making regarding equipment lifecycle management.
Spare Parts & Inventory Control
The position requires monitoring spare parts and consumables inventory, maintaining specialized tools, and ensuring only manufacturer-approved parts are used during repairs. Effective inventory management helps minimize delays and ensures timely maintenance interventions.
Safety & Compliance
Adherence to biomedical, electrical, and institutional safety procedures is paramount. Academic & Operational Support
Collaboration with faculty and laboratory staff is essential to ensure equipment readiness for practical sessions, laboratory classes, and examinations. The technician will schedule maintenance activities to minimize operational disruptions and support the seamless delivery of academic programs.
Vendor Coordination
The role involves coordinating with external vendors for specialized maintenance and repairs, monitoring vendor activities, and verifying service quality. Effective vendor management ensures high standards of service delivery and supports the timely resolution of complex technical issues.
Continuous Improvement
The Biomedical Technician will report equipment incidents, failures, and recurring technical issues, supporting root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions. Additionally, the role assists in equipment lifecycle evaluation and replacement planning, contributing to the continuous improvement of the institution’s technical infrastructure.
Requirements
- Education: Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance, with preference given to candidates with experience in hospitals, medical colleges, or simulation centers.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of electronics, medical devices, and laboratory systems.
