Quantity Surveyor Engineer - Electrical

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor Engineer - Electrical to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of electrical quantity surveying, including the preparation and validation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost control, variation management, and interim payment certifications. Your expertise will ensure that electrical works are delivered within budget, adhering to contractual obligations and project timelines. This position requires a proactive approach to cost management, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, contractors, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

The Quantity Surveyor Engineer - Electrical will play a critical role in the successful execution of electrical projects by fulfilling the following responsibilities:

• Project Quantity Management: Lead and oversee all Quantity Surveying (QS) activities at project sites, ensuring that electrical works are executed within approved quantities and budgets. Monitor progress to identify deviations and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Document Review and Preparation:
  • Thoroughly review and validate tender documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive Bills of Quantities (BOQs) that reflect the scope of electrical works, including materials, labor, and equipment.
• Quantity Verification:
  • Verify and validate quantities against project BOQs and purchase requests to prevent discrepancies and cost overruns.
  • Ensure that all quantities are accurately measured and documented in alignment with industry standards and contractual agreements.
• Subcontractor and Supplier Management:
  • Review and validate Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) submitted by subcontractors, including supporting documents such as drawings, Material Inspection Reports (MIRs), Work Inspection Reports (WIRs), and earned quantities.
  • Support negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable terms and mitigate financial risks.
• Variation and Payment Management:
  • Prepare, manage, and track Variation Orders (VOs) to ensure they are processed efficiently and in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Maintain and update IPC logs, invoicing reports, and other financial documentation to facilitate accurate and timely payments.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Project Management, Cost Control, and QS teams to align on project objectives and resolve commercial issues.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless execution of electrical works and adherence to project timelines.
• Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain meticulous records of project quantities, variations, payments, and other critical documentation to support audits and project reviews.
  • Provide regular reports to stakeholders on project financial performance, cost variances, and commercial risks.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following academic and professional requirements:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Proven experience in Quantity Surveying, particularly within the electrical sector, with a strong understanding of BOQ preparation, cost control, and variation management.
• Familiarity with industry standards, contractual agreements, and regulatory compliance related to electrical works.
• Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills to effectively liaise with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers.
• Proficiency in using Quantity Surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
