Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Dentist GP Assistant to join our dynamic dental practice. Key Responsibilities
The Dentist GP Assistant will perform a wide range of clinical and administrative duties to support the dentist during diagnostic, operative, surgical, periodontal, preventive, orthodontic, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pedodontic procedures. Your responsibilities will include:
- Patient Preparation and Management: Prepare and dismiss patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring their comfort and privacy. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment by performing point-of-use cleaning of instrumentation and disinfecting equipment after each procedure.
- Clinical Support During Procedures: Actively participate in patient examinations and treatments by retracting cheeks and tissues, irrigating and aspirating mouth fluids, and anticipating the dentist’s needs to facilitate efficient four-handed dentistry. Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout all procedures.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Accurately chart the dentist’s findings regarding the patient’s oral conditions and record the treatment rendered in the patient’s permanent chart. Review and update patient medical histories, flagging charts to highlight significant medical issues that may impact dental care. Alert the dentist to any critical patient information.
- Expanded Duty Procedures: Perform expanded duty procedures under the direct supervision of the dentist, as required by the practice’s protocols and regulatory standards.
- Emergency Preparedness: Maintain and periodically review skills in First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Be prepared to handle medical emergencies promptly and effectively until additional medical assistance arrives or the dentist can intervene. Assist the dentist in rendering emergency first aid as needed.
- Patient Education: Instruct patients in post-operative home care procedures as directed by the dentist, ensuring they understand how to maintain their oral health following treatment.
- Operational Support: Maintain an adequate supply of clinical materials and equipment, ensuring that the dental operatory is fully stocked and ready for procedures. Assist in ordering and organizing supplies as needed.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the dental team to ensure smooth workflow, adherence to infection control protocols, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Support the dentist in achieving optimal patient outcomes while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Work Environment and Schedule
This position operates in a fully indoor clinical setting, with a structured schedule of six working days per week and one designated day off. The standard working hours are eight net hours per day, aligned with the shift schedule approved by the Head of Department. The role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Diploma in Dental Assisting or a related field is required.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 to 5 years of clinical experience in a dental setting, with a proven track record in chairside assisting and clinical support functions.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using office and health information systems to maintain accurate patient records and streamline administrative tasks.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Arabic, with strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and healthcare providers.
