SCADA Engineer

About the Role

JAL International Company Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced SCADA Engineer to join our dynamic Energy Services team. In this critical role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, integrating, testing, commissioning, and maintaining advanced SCADA and substation automation systems for high-voltage substations ranging from 13.8 kV to 380 kV. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless, reliable, and secure operation of these systems, aligning with project specifications and stringent industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

The SCADA Engineer will be responsible for a wide array of technical tasks, including but not limited to:

• System Design and Development: Design and review SCADA system architecture, RTU configurations, network topologies, I/O lists, control logic diagrams, and interface drawings to meet project requirements.
• Device Configuration and Programming: Configure and program RTUs, PLCs, and IEDs for substation automation applications, ensuring optimal performance and integration.
• Integration and Interfacing: Integrate protection relays, meters, and bay control units with SCADA/RTU systems to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
• Field Supervision: Oversee SCADA panel installation, wiring, and field-device terminations to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
• Communication and Connectivity: Establish and maintain reliable communication between substation devices and control centers, facilitating real-time monitoring and control.
• Testing and Validation: Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to validate communications, redundancy, alarms, and control functions, ensuring system integrity.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve SCADA communication, hardware, and software issues while maintaining system backups, configuration files, and comprehensive technical documentation.
• Compliance and Security: Ensure adherence to applicable standards, including IEC, IEEE, SEC, and local utility requirements, while implementing robust cybersecurity and data-integrity controls.
• Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Adhere to HSE requirements during all field activities, testing, and commissioning phases to promote a safe working environment.

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must possess the following:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in SCADA and substation automation systems, specifically within the 13.8 kV to 380 kV range.
• At least 2 years of direct experience in a similar SCADA engineering role, demonstrating a proven track record in system design and implementation.
• Proficiency in SCADA/HMI programming and configuration, with a deep understanding of communication protocols and data acquisition systems.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 and experience in SCADA system integration, along with familiarity with relevant networking and cybersecurity principles.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Security+, or vendor-specific credentials from industry leaders like Siemens, ABB, GE, or Schneider are highly advantageous.
