Data Center Engineer (Contractor)

Note: This is a 12-month contract position with the potential for extension based on performance and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Center Engineer will be responsible for leading and executing comprehensive data center deployments, including but not limited to:

• Infrastructure Deployment: Leading end-to-end rack deployments, including rack mounting, secure bolt-down, structured cabling (fiber and copper), power integration, grounding, and equipment labeling.
• Hardware Installation & Configuration: Performing onsite installation, configuration, and commissioning of servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless equipment from leading OEMs such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Fortinet, HPE, and Dell.
• Project Ownership: Taking full ownership of site delivery and acceptance, collaborating closely with customers, OEM engineers, and Sycomp project teams to ensure seamless execution and handover.
• Network Validation: Conducting fiber and copper termination, patching, OTDR testing, and performance validation to guarantee network integrity, reliability, and compliance with design specifications.
• Connectivity & Security Validation: Validating LAN/WAN connectivity, redundancy, failover mechanisms, and security configurations against approved engineering designs.
• Troubleshooting & Support: Providing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis during installation and post-deployment phases to resolve technical issues efficiently.
• Documentation & Reporting: Producing and maintaining accurate as-built documentation, rack elevations, test results, and handover reports to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensuring all onsite activities adhere to data center operational standards, safety protocols, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) best practices.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Acting as a technical lead onsite, guiding and mentoring junior engineers and field technicians to foster professional growth and operational excellence.

Required Skills & Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and expertise:

• Hands-On Experience: Proven track record in data center deployments and field engineering, with a strong emphasis on practical, onsite execution.
• Multi-Vendor Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to work in complex, multi-vendor network and compute environments, integrating diverse hardware and software solutions.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of structured cabling systems (fiber and copper), rack integration, power layout, and network hardware installation and validation.
• Fiber Testing & Analysis: Experience performing OTDR testing and interpreting fiber test results to ensure optimal network performance.
• Interpretation of Designs: Ability to read and execute engineering designs, rack elevations, and cabling schematics with precision and attention to detail.
• Communication & Coordination: Exceptional customer-facing communication skills, coupled with the ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Self-Motivation & Ownership: A self-driven, quality-focused mindset with the capacity to own end-to-end delivery and drive projects to successful completion.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following experience will be considered advantageous:

• Prior involvement in large-scale or multi-site data center deployments.
• Exposure to acceptance testing and commissioning sign-off processes.
• Leadership or site-lead experience on customer projects, demonstrating the ability to manage teams and deliver under pressure.
