Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Office Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive technical expertise in roads, infrastructure, and utility networks, with a proven ability to prepare and review construction drawings, perform quantity take-offs, analyze surveying data, and coordinate utility networks. This role is critical to ensuring that all project deliverables adhere to specifications, applicable codes, and contractual obligations, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
The Technical Office Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of technical tasks, including:
- Drawing Preparation and Review: Develop, review, and approve shop drawings and as-built drawings for roads and infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with project requirements and industry standards.
- Design and Layout Development: Create and modify layouts, profiles, cross-sections, and grading drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, providing precise and actionable design solutions.
- Quantity Management: Calculate excavation and backfilling quantities, prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and conduct detailed quantity take-offs to support project planning and cost estimation.
- Payment Certification: Review contractor and supplier payment certificates, verifying compliance with approved quantities and actual site progress to ensure accurate financial tracking.
- Surveying Data Processing: Receive, process, and analyze surveying data in SDR, TXT, and Excel formats, ensuring data integrity and usability for project execution.
- Surface Modeling and Excavation Calculations: Generate natural ground and design surfaces (TIN/DTM Surfaces) and determine excavation depths and formation levels to support construction activities.
- Stakeout Coordinates Preparation: Develop stakeout coordinates for pipelines, manholes, chambers, and other structures, facilitating precise field implementation.
- Survey and As-Built Verification: Review survey and as-built reports, comparing actual site levels with approved design levels to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance.
- Utility Coordination: Collaborate with multiple utility disciplines, including water, sewerage, stormwater, irrigation, electrical, and telecommunications networks, to identify and resolve potential clashes and ensure seamless integration.
- Technical Documentation and Approvals: Prepare and follow up on technical reports, material submittals, and drawing approvals with consultants and clients, maintaining clear communication and adherence to project timelines.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with site engineers, surveyors, consultants, and other project stakeholders to ensure alignment and resolve technical challenges efficiently.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all technical deliverables comply with approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, and contractual requirements, upholding the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
- Documentation Management: Maintain organized and up-to-date technical records, drawings, calculations, and project documentation for easy reference and audit purposes.
Qualifications and Requirements
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess the following skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in technical office roles within roads, infrastructure, and utility projects.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D, with a demonstrated ability to create and modify complex engineering drawings.
- Drawing and Quantity Expertise: Proven experience in preparing shop drawings, as-built drawings, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and conducting quantity take-offs.
- Utility Network Knowledge: Familiarity with WaterCAD/WaterGEMS, SewerCAD/SewerGEMS, and Global Mapper, enabling effective analysis and coordination of utility networks.
- Surveying and Modeling Skills: Strong understanding of surveying data, coordinate systems, surface modeling, profiles, and cross-sections, with the ability to generate accurate and actionable insights.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Good understanding of local and international codes, technical specifications, and contract requirements to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional coordination, communication, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Capacity to analyze complex technical challenges, propose viable solutions, and meet project deadlines without compromising quality.
