We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Lead Design Engineer with 10–15 years of specialized experience in high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substation design to join our dynamic team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This pivotal role demands a strategic leader capable of driving excellence in both primary and secondary electrical design for transformative substation projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and operational efficiency.

In this position, you will take ownership of end-to-end design leadership, fostering innovation while delivering robust, scalable solutions for modern energy infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping substation layouts, schematics, and technical specifications that align with global best practices and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As the Lead Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Primary Electrical Design Leadership: Oversee the design of HV/EHV substations, including AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear) and GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) systems, with a focus on transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, busbars, isolators, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), and comprehensive earthing systems.
• Secondary Electrical Design Leadership: Lead the design of protection schemes, control systems, metering solutions, interlocking mechanisms, AC/DC systems, relay panels, control panels, and SCADA interfaces to ensure seamless integration and operational reliability.
• Technical Deliverables: Develop, review, and approve substation single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, schematics, and design drawings, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and regulatory standards.
• Technical Oversight: Review and validate technical specifications, engineering calculations, equipment datasheets, and design deliverables to maintain the highest standards of quality and performance.
• Collaborative Leadership: Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation while driving cross-functional alignment with project stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• 10–15 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with a specialized focus on substation design.
• Proven expertise in both primary and secondary substation design, with hands-on experience in HV/EHV substations, preferably at 132kV and above.
• Deep knowledge of AIS and GIS substation design principles, including equipment selection, layout optimization, and system integration.
• Technical authority in substation components such as transformers, switchgear, protection systems, control panels, and SCADA interfaces.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data and propose innovative solutions.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors.
