Hardware Technician I

About the Role

Hexagon Autonomous Solutions is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Hardware Technician I to provide expert site-based and remote support for our customers’ mining systems. This critical role involves deploying new and upgraded systems at customer mine sites, performing basic troubleshooting, configuring software and operating systems, and developing procedural documentation and system reports tailored to customer needs. The Hardware Technician will serve as a key escalation point for technical issues, collaborating closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers to ensure seamless system deployment while adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Hardware Technician I will be responsible for the following core duties:

• System Deployment and Support: Execute the deployment of mining systems at customer sites, including loading configurations, upgrades, and operating systems onto computing equipment (field and servers) in accordance with defined change management procedures. Ensure systems are deployed efficiently and in compliance with project specifications and customer requirements.
• Technical Troubleshooting and Escalation: Act as a primary point of contact for technical escalations, diagnosing issues beyond the scope of standard project teams and working through resolution pathways. Provide timely and effective support to resolve hardware and software challenges, minimizing downtime and operational disruptions.
• Project Coordination and Documentation: Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Engineers to define project phases, elements, and schedules. Maintain accurate project databases, including system configurations and deployment records. Contribute to the preparation of cost estimates and ensure adherence to project management standards throughout the lifecycle.
• Quality, Safety, and Compliance: Uphold Hexagon’s Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE), Ethics & Compliance policies, and customer-specific regulations. Work in diverse environments, including at heights and under challenging conditions such as heat, noise, and dust, while prioritizing safety and operational integrity.
• Customer and Stakeholder Relations: Maintain strong working relationships with customer personnel, clearly communicating any issues or risks that may arise. Foster collaboration with Hardware Managers, Project Engineers, and technical staff to enhance system quality, installation processes, and support procedures. Represent Hexagon with professionalism to protect and enhance the company’s brand and reputation.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for process improvements, cost efficiencies, and enhanced project cycles. Recommend innovative solutions that align with business objectives and customer needs.

• Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with technology deployment in harsh industrial environments, including mining operations. Strong analytical skills to diagnose problems quickly and implement effective solutions.
• Customer-Centric Mindset: Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders at all levels. Sensitivity to varying technical literacy and the ability to adapt communication styles accordingly.
• Project Management Acumen: Familiarity with project management principles, including planning, resource allocation, progress monitoring, and risk mitigation. Experience with cost estimation and adherence to project timelines and budgets is highly desirable.
• Safety and Compliance Awareness: Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and compliance with regulatory requirements. Ability to work in demanding conditions while prioritizing personal safety and the safety of others.
• Collaborative and Adaptable: Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships across departments and with customers. Adaptability to changing project demands and operational environments.

Working Conditions

The Hardware Technician I will operate in a dynamic environment that may include office settings, customer mine sites, and field locations. The role requires flexibility to work in varying conditions, including elevated workspaces, high temperatures, noisy environments, and dusty conditions. Travel to remote or challenging locations may be necessary to support system deployments and troubleshooting activities.
